I currently live in Shanghai, but I've visited Beijing. Both cities are beautiful, but as far as living goes, I prefer Shanghai. So many things are more accessible in Shanghai; there are more things to do (more restaurants, more concerts, bars, shopping areas, more people, etc.) and the transportation system is easier to negotiate. You can easily take day-trips from Shanghai, and there are a lot of university students milling around the city.

Ahh I see. Well I haven't been to either one so I can't give any useful advice unfortunately.. But it sounds like you yourself have a good sense of what both are like.

Whether you want to learn the language, practice kungfu, or pursue an MBA at one of China’s elite universities, so many offers a broad variety of programs ranging from as little as a week to several years of study - all at affordable prices. Choose between the bright lights of Shanghai, the history and culture of Beijing, the mountain forests of Kunming or one of our many other locations.
Shanghai is like Chinese NYC, whereas Beijing is like Chinese DC, along with all the Nationalism and Political Intruige that goes along with it. You'll largely be shielded from it as are most people from the DC intruige
That being said, Beijing is just not that fun to live in. I lived there for a year and it's a lot like living in a Museum. Everything is 'sacred' and 'do not touch.' Shanghai has a night life like no other, but as with everywhere in China, stay away from the scammers.
If you want to be where there is a lot of culture/history, such as Summer Palace, Heaven's gate, Tianamen square and lots of temples mixed with modernism I would go with Beijing.
If you like modern, nonstop life with alot of westernization I would go with Shanghai. Shanghai is very modern.

Wouldn't you want to do a program in Shanghai since you already studied in Beijing?
