I live and work in Berkeley, California for the internet sensation Go Overseas. It's a pretty cool gig. I started this way back when I was teaching English in Taiwan for a couple years, and the site has evolved into a whole directory of opportunities to teach, study, volunteer, and intern abroad.
When I'm not fixing problems and taking names, you'll usually find me at the nearest beach, or playing soccer. I'm a passionate Barcelona FC fan and Spain supporter.

Interview with Jane Stanfield, International Volunteer Extraordinaire
Hi everyone! Today I'm happy to bring you an interview a longtime in the making. Back in October I connected with jane Stanfield, a well-known name in the volunteer industry, after she left a review of her volunteer experiences. I really liked her story and how she has incorporated volunteering abroad into her life. We agreed to do an interview to share her valuable insights and experiences with the Go Overseas community, and hopefully inspire more travelers to volunteer abroad along the way. It didn't happen all at once,...

Andrew in Italy
So a lot of my day is actually spent off Go Overseas and on other websites and blogs. I really enjoy reading about and interacting with fellow travelers who are either teaching, studying, or volunteering abroad (this is actually the best part of my job). I recently came across a couple posts that were discussing 'what makes a good global citizen,' and why anyone should care. I personally think that there is no right answer that fits within everyones framework, but it is becoming an increasingly important concept to explore and discuss as more people seek out opportunities...

I can't think of a better way of appreciating a new culture than by taking part in one of its festivals. You'll find that some festivals are celebrated by an entire country, while others will be unique to a single city or region, but either way festivals play an important role in a culture's identity. To pay tribute to some of the more unique and outrageous reasons people celebrate life around the world, I put together this slideshow of 10 festivals that are definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!
I would also love to hear from anyone who has experienced any of these festivals, or wants to...

Why do you travel?
The best way for me to explain why I travel so much is to simply state: it is an escape from the ordinary and a search for something extraordinary. If you are on this site and reading this, I am going to make a fair assumption that you too are searching for something beyond your own horizons.
But why do it? What makes seeing the Pyramids of Giza or enduring a 16 hour flight to Australia so satisfying? Why not stay close to home and visit that local museum you have never been to? First, you may be surprised to know that some people actually do this and feel no desire at all...
