Go Overseas Staff Writers

Go Overseas is excited to announce that we are looking for two new writers to join our editorial team. No matter what part of "meaningful travel" gets you ticking, this is a fantastic opportunity to write for a wide audience of travel enthusiasts, gain exposure and experience as a writer, and work closely with our full time Editorial Staff to develop professionally.

Note: This is a remote position. Applicants do not have to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area to apply.

Job Description:
  • Contribute one 1,200 - 2,000 word article each month on a topic decided in collaboration with our editorial team
  • Market published articles on social media networks
  • Optional monthly webinar with the full Go Overseas Editorial Team
  • 6-month contract with possibility to extend.
  • After a three month trial period, we will discuss increasing content contributions to two articles per month
Required Skills:
  • Experience writing for web
  • Experience with social media marketing and an established social media presence (Must already have a Facebook account, Twitter handle, LinkedIn profile, and Google+)
  • Experience with studying, volunteering, teaching, learning languages, interning, or gap-yearing abroad
  • Timeliness and bandwidth to submit articles each month
Preferred:
  • An expertise in one of our topics that need a little more love:
    • Teaching ESL Abroad
    • Advice for parents of study abroad students
    • High school abroad
    • Interning abroad
    • Volunteering abroad
  • Knowledge of SEO
  • Someone with experience running their own blog / website (Wordpress, Blogger, whatever!)
  • A fun and quirky writing style
  • Familiarity with the Go Overseas blog and mission
  • Experience with photography or video is also a huge plus!
Compensation and Benefits:
  • $40 per article with consideration for raise after the initial trial period

Internships Available

We are currently accepting interns located in the Berkeley / San Francisco are for the Spring 2015 semester. The ideal candidate will be able to commit to 12 - 14 hours per week.

Internet Marketing Intern

The intern will work closely with the management team to tackle large projects that leverage our creativity, SEO expertise, and experience to grow the Go Overseas brand and increase our website's domain authority. The intern will also work on promoting reviews, via contests and other means. The management team will work with the intern to build their skill set and identify areas of interest.

  • Your primary job responsibilities will involve reaching out to potential partners, promoting Go Overseas initiatives, thinking creatively to leverage the best SEO practices, marketing our original content, and more.
  • You will work closely with our team to monitor these efforts and to come up with new projects that capitalize on the creativity and nimbleness of our team.
  • You will be given responsibility over your projects, with constant feedback and support from our management team.
  • You will be encouraged to identify goals and skills you would like to improve. The management team will help you reach these goals, improve your knowledge base, and explore new interests.

Social Media Intern

The intern will manage our various social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, and YouTube. This intern will continue social media best practices established by past interns and the management team. We will also look to this intern to seek out new trends and propose new social media initiatives. Goals for fans, followers, views, etc will be set and worked towards. The intern will also help manage Go Overseas Facebook advertising campaigns. The management team will work with the intern to build their skill set and identify areas of interest.

Job Description
  • Your primary job responsibilities will involve leveraging social media to increase traffic to the site and build knowledge of the brand. This will include: posting our unique content to the Facebook wall, building Facebook fans through contests and other creative means, managing our twitter feed, growing twitter followers, managing our YouTube channel, and more.
  • You will work closely with our team to monitor these efforts and to come up with new projects that capitalize on the creativity and nimbleness of our team.
  • You will be given responsibility over your projects, with constant feedback and support from our management team.
  • You will be encouraged to identify goals and skills you would like to improve. The management team will help you reach these goals, improve your knowledge base, and explore new interests.
