Integral to understanding any culture’s roots and motivations is at least a basic understanding of their major religious traditions. The most visual display of any culture’s religious practices can be seen on the major religious holidays and the festivals, ceremonies, and public celebrations that accompany them. This photo essay gives you a glimpse of major religious holidays you can experience around the globe, and some of the sights and sounds you can expect to encounter at these holy, and fun, gatherings.

I can't think of a better way of appreciating a new culture than by taking part in one of its festivals. You'll find that some festivals are celebrated by an entire country, while others will be unique to a single city or region, but either way festivals play an important role in a culture's identity. To pay tribute to some of the more unique and outrageous reasons people celebrate life around the world, I put together this slideshow of 10 festivals that are definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!
I would also love to hear from anyone who has experienced any of these festivals, or wants to...

People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home. – Dagobert D. Runes
Photographing people abroad can be a sticky and awkward business. Other subjects are easier - landscapes are disinterested, buildings just sit there, and animals don’t mind, but photographing people requires greater thought and deliberation. Documenting humanity is perhaps the most rewarding part of travel photography: people make up the essence and spirit of a place, and a human face is much more expressive than that of even the most beautiful building. I hope these ten tips...

Study abroad for English speakers!
Study abroad isn’t just for language majors. If you don’t know anything beyond English, there are places where you won’t sink to the bottom for not speaking the lingua franca. But although English is known throughout these countries, it’s best to try and learn the basic phrases in the local language. It not only shows respect for the host country, but will give you a deeper appreciation of the culture.

European Cities in America!
Europe is home to some of the most famous cities in the world, all of which are popular destinations with students seeking opportunities to study abroad. There are numerous places of historical and cultural interest, as well as being home to a diverse range of cultures, climates, and regions—everything from Christianity to Islam, freezing Scandinavian winters to warm Mediterranean summers, and desolate Siberia to picturesque Tuscany.
Not everyone, however, is able to take a vacation or study abroad in a cosmopolitan European city, which is why we've compiled this...

Why study history abroad?
The benefits of studying and understanding history are not always obvious. How, for example, can knowing the intimate details of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh help you find a job today? Sometimes it may seem like there is little to relate to, but understanding history helps us to appreciate humanities past triumphs, as well as our mistakes. From this knowledge we seek to build a better future.
One of the many perks of studying abroad is the chance to live and learn in any one of the great cities of the world. Did you know people have been living in Athens, Greece for...

That old saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” is never truer than when you’re recording images during an overseas trip. Preparing Your Camera for the Trip
Spending time with your camera equipment before traveling will make recording those special moments a hassle-free experience. First, pull out the camera to re-familiarize yourself with the settings; then take a few shots. If...
