The Go Overseas Mission: Don't Just Travel, Travel with Purpose

The Go team takes a break to reflect on our company culture.

The Go Overseas team may not always agree on everything (such as whether it's better to live in the East Bay or San Francisco), but one cornerstone remains. Yup, you guessed it - we all have a passion for traveling. Not the sissy tour bus stuff; instead, we challenge and encourage ourselves and others to have purposeful experiences overseas.

Because the number of reviews-based travel websites are popping up left and right, the Go team decided to do some reflecting on what we strive to provide our users. Taking a day to look inwardly and discuss openly our goals helped us better define our mission.

After spending the morning in conversation and snacking on treats from our favorite local co-op, we squished into a car and headed across the Bay Bridge to the city. A hike to Reyes Point was just what we needed to compensate for over-indulging on Shanghai dumplings at lunch. By the afternoon, we shifted from talk about shop to instead growing as friends and learning about each other. (For instance, who knew that Mitch does an uncanny impression of Carly Rae Jepsen?!)

The travel industry may seem big and scary, but we want to help you navigate through all of the clutter. We want to help you feel empowered when visiting a new place. We want to help you decide. We want to help you go.

Go Overseas will help you make a more informed decision when embarking on a purposeful experience abroad. We give you unique resources to compare your options: informative articles, program search tools, detailed listings, and alumni reviews and interviews. Here, you can peruse first hand accounts that'll inspire you to develop your own multicultural consciousness on an international adventure.

As the team voiced their opinions on the type of company we want to be, on the type of resources we wish to offer, and the type of future we want to work for, I couldn't scribble the words into my notebook fast enough. There are a lot of incredible folk out there whose work inspires us daily: Terri Wingham, Rand Fishkin, Ken Budd, our users. Without the enthusiasm and potential of the people who use our website, we'd have a pretty hard time rolling out of bed in the morning. And while I can't say Andrew always comes in on time, it usually is with a smile.
