CIEE Gap Year Program in Chile

CIEE's gap year abroad program in Valparaiso, Chile, offers a number of different roads in order to soak up the fascinating Chilean culture.

In order to witness Chile's remarkable beauty, CIEE has arranged home stays with local families in Valparaiso, a city known for its stunning colonial yet vibrant architecture and its ideal location. The city faces the Pacific Ocean and is laid carefully across a mountain side; the winding cobblestone roads combined with the eye-popping, rainbow-inspired houses and buildings will leave you breathless. CIEE also offers language immersion programs in order to help acclimate you into your new environment and well as allow you to experience cultural immersion to the fullest potential.

CIEE also requires gap year participants to complete 8 hours of volunteer work in the Valparaiso community. Volunteer work will range from teaching English classes in public schools, to helping public health organizations, to working in youth shelters. They will place you in your volunteer work based on your previous Spanish language proficiency and emotional stability as to ensure that your gap year abroad in Chile will give you the best of all worlds; emotional development, cultural immersion, and a fun experience that will leave lasting memories.
