About Program

When glancing through surf magazines, mind mesmerised by the perfect wave in a tropical paradise...then there's a good chance that the image source is Costa Rica. This small Central American wonderland really has to be experienced to be understood. With water warmer than you're average bath, there's no need for a wetsuit here. You can expect to find incredible surf breaking onto beautiful sandy beaches, and when not navigating the waters, there's an abundance of exotic wildlife and tropical rainforests to explore.

Tropical paradise!

I was in Santa Teresa for the one month surf adventure, and I had the time of my life! We were staying in two self catering apartments at Don Jons, which were great and very comfortable (especially the hammocks!), and so close to the beach. The beaches are amazing - warm sea, perfect waves and so tropical...literally paradise. The surf lessons were great and everyone improved so much, and the daily yoga sessions were fantastic too. For any foodies, the food was absolutely delicious, especially the mangos and pineapple! I would 100% recommend this trip to anyone, you will have an incredible time and most likely not want to leave!

Pura vida mayne

This trip to Santa Teresa was amazing. The place we stayed (don jon's surf lodge) had a great atmosphere, lovely people and the apartments we stayed in were ideal for our needs (beds, kitchen and hamocks). To give you an idea of an average day, you will probably wake up quite early either for a dawn surf or because of the howler monkeys about 20 metres from your room. Then you will normally have a 2 hr surf lesson in the morning (the time always changes depending on the surf conditions). The afternoon is usually free for some hammock time or another surf and ending the day with an evening yoga session which seriously helps the surfing. Never tried yoga before this trip but surprised myself by loving it. A couple of local beers before an early night as everyone is normally shattered. Haven't gone into the food side but there is a load of food options and some great eating spots. Even if not as cheap as you may hope from a Central American country, it's usually definitely worth the dinero.

What would you improve about this program?
Only slight problem I had was a budgeting issue. I tried to live off $20 a day (probably a bit too frugle) and struggled when the prices where higher than I expected. Obviously not a downfall of the program and Costa Rica is worth the slight extra cost.
