Global Citizen Year - Gap Year Program
Take the chance to fully explore and immerse yourself in a foreign culture with Global Citizen Year's global year bridge program. Gap year abroad programs are offered in Brazil, Senegal and Ecuador. Global Citizen Year provides you with endless opportunities to immerse yourself in these three fascinating, remarkable and unique cultures, leaving you with a lasting impression and a new sense of a global community.
Your journey will begin with a two-week training course in California, where you will learn concepts in global development, social change, effective leadership and communication across diverse media and cultures. This training will provide a framework and a method of understanding the social issues you will be encountering during your time abroad. Once finishing the domestic training, you will also be completing an in-country orientation to adequately prepare you for culture shock and begin to immerse you into the phenomenal community where you will be spending your gap year.
After training and settling into the community, your time will be spent working in an apprenticeship in the field, which range from public health clinics, to hospitals, to monitoring use of cookstoves in rural communities. You will be living with a host family, giving you a great opportunity to experience these unique cultures to the fullest.

About Global Citizen Year
Each year, we recruit and train a diverse corps of high-potential graduating seniors and support them through a bridge year of service learning and leadership training in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Through a world-class training and individual apprenticeships, our Fellows develop the skills and perspectives they need to succeed in college, careers, and a global economy. We invest in emerging leaders because we know that young people who have the opportunity to explore the world, and their role within it, approach the future with the passion and purpose they need to make an impact - on our nation and our world.
