Program Description
Where There Be Dragons Gap Year Program in Senegal and Guinea
Discover the hospitality of West Africa by taking part in a gap year program that takes you through Senegal and Guinea, exploring the rural, as well as the city centers. This gap year West Africa gives you the opportunity to evaluate the economic and developmental disparities in Africa. The program begins in Thies, Senegal where students stay with a local host-family for 5 weeks and learn about the various cultural and religious traditions of the region, including dynamic Sufi Islamic traditions.
The program moves from the urban to the rural regions of Senegal, before moving to Guinea where students learn about Fulani culture as well as local languages. Students engage in independent learning by engaging with villagers, and local healers, to learn about rural life in Guinea. The program finishes in Dakar, where students discover the urban capital of Senegal, a strong contrast to the village life in Guinea and elsewhere in Senegal.
