Program Description

ELI Abroad - Internships in Argentina

Description:

By night, the cafes, steak houses and clubs of Buenos Aires pulse with a nightlife that rivals New York City. By day, the wide avenues, elegant buildings and generous parks justify the nickname “the Paris of the South”. Add to all of this a distinctly Latin American vibe and you have one of the most intriguing destinations in the world. As an ELI intern you will have the opportunity to experience all facets of this cosmopolitan city – from the flash and glamour of the upscale shopping and posh neighborhoods to the surrounding villas and their inescapable marginalization, poverty and resulting social problems. By interning with a human rights organization, legal firm, hospital or any one of our other numerous options, you will come away not only with a better understanding of complex issues but also the satisfaction of having contributed to the solution.

Five reasons to intern with us!

Argentina has Latin America’s third large economy. An internship in this emerging market offers students a chance to test out a career, network with professionals and gain experience in their field.

Internships in Argentina are arranged on an individual basis depending on your skills, interests and education. We place interns with major firms and up-and-coming organizations in fields such as human rights, political science, journalism, business, social work, medicine, law and graphic design. If you don’t see your area of focus on the list, just ask us!

Not only will you gain resume-building work experience, but you’ll be working all in Spanish! What better way to impress future employers than with your bilingual skills? We can arrange for Spanish lessons too, in case you need to brush up.

Housing options. If you want to live in a house with many other interns and volunteers your age, we have that. If you prefer the cultural immersion offered by a host family, that’s an option too. And if you want something in the middle, you can share an apartment with an Argentine professional.

We give you the structure to find your footing in an unfamiliar country, while also giving you the full freedom to explore and interact with the local culture as you see fit. The program stresses making connections with local people but also offers interns a chance to participate in social activities and outings with other participants, such as tango shows, wine tastings and barbeques.
