The UBELONG Expedition in Cambodia provides interns and volunteers the opportunity to learn about the effects of the Khmer Rouge regime on modern day issues in Cambodia. On this expedition, students will delve into the history of the Khmer regime and its subsequent influence on Cambodian civil society, politics, education, sex-trafficking, and much more. Students are given a reading list prior to departure, and upon arrival, engage in field research as well as volunteering with local organizations.
Participants engage with local workers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, community development organizations, and many other entities in order to gain a wholesome perspective on modern day issues in Cambodia.
Interns will also have the opportunity to engage directly with locals by taking part in a number of community service projects.
The expedition is based in Phnom Penh, however interns will have the opportunity to visit Siem Reap as well as Angkor Wat.
Participants will recieve an online orientation along with tutorials and reading materials to help them prepare for the UBELONG research expedition internship in Cambodia.
This expedition gives interns a practical as well as analytical perspective into the factors leading to the modern day formation of Cambodia civil society.
