Visit Shanghai

I had an awesome experience in Shanghai! The organization that I interned with made sure that I was cared for and that I experienced what Shanghai had to offer. I received very useful Mandarin lessons that I was able to use during my stay. The housing could have been MUCH better and more comfortable... bring a foam mat or insert for your bed if staying more than a week.

Do it

I came to AIDE Abroad with no knowledge of the Chinese language, little work experience, and the requirement to be in Shanghai. But they guaranteed me an internship, and I got one - a great one! It did take some fenagling with the US staff but once they put me through to their partners in Shanghai it was smooth sailing. Housing was subpar but fine for a short stay.

Alumni Interviews

Meet Ateanna Uriri, AIDE Abroad alum in China

GO: What originally inspired you to intern in Shanghai with AIDE Abroad?

Ateanna: I was inspired to intern in Shanghai with AIDE Abroad simply because I wanted to try something new. I thought that traveling and interning in a place that I had little background information on would be exciting and my decision would not be biased because I did not know anyone who had gone to Shanghai. I picked AIDE Abroad because out of the companies offering international internships, AIDE was the most affordable and supportive.

GO: Describe your day to day activities as an intern in Shanghai, China.

Ateanna: My day to day activities varied from assisting the event coordinator with upcoming events to fundraise for the organization, researching information for cultural excursions for high school students, and helping the organization with everyday tasks.

GO: How has this experience impacted your future?

Ateanna: I believe this experience has cemented that fact that International Studies is the field I should be in and that this is something I want to do for as long as I can. Academically, it has given me real world experience that you cannot teach in the classroom. Personally, just being on my own trying and seeing new things has been rewarding.
