What inspired you to intern in Shanghai with the Hutong School?
Karel: I really wanted to visit China and when I first had to choose my internship, my school back home recommended the Hutong School. I followed through and contacted Hutong School and almost immediately received a response. All I had to do was fill in a few papers and check a list of possible internships in China. Hutong school offered a very big range of possible internships so i had plenty of choices! After just a few days, I participated in an interview with the boss of the company I had selected. A few months later I was on a plane to China! Evan, a staff member of Hutong School, came to pick me up at the airport, which was very convenient! They also arranged my apartment, a local phone number/sim card, a metro card, and relevant local maps. I was all set!
What made this experience unique and special?
Karel: I had never been to China before, and the people of Hutong School were very helpful and friendly. They organized cultural trips and bar outings, as well as showed us everything a tourist should visit in Shanghai! If you ever have any questions about Shanghai, Bejing (if you want to visit), or nearby cities like Hangzhou... they're there to help!
How has this experience impacted your future?
Karel: My internship is a big plus on my CV; I'm positive all of my future employers will see this experience as a huge asset. While in Shanghai, I not only practiced my language skills and social skills but I also discovered tons of interesting stuff about the Chinese culture!
