Why did you decide to intern with CAPA in London

Gabrielle: I decided to study abroad with CAPA in London for two major reasons. One, I knew that CAPA had a successful internship program and I knew I wanted to be a part of their success. Being in the workplace in a foreign country is not something that everyone can have on their resume; the fact that I now do and had such a successful placement with my internship has already helped me out in my career. My other reason in choosing London had to do with my studies. I am a theatre performance major with an arts administration minor, so going to London was a way of spending time where a majority of the arts were created-- sort of like my motherland. I had heard about the theatre classes within CAPA London and thought it would fit my needs perfectly. I took a chance that CAPA would help me accomplish all my goals while abroad and it certainly fulfilled and surpassed my expectations!

What made this internship experience unique and special?

Gabrielle: This study abroad experience was unique and special in that it wasn't a set campus and dorm experience. I was studying, working, living, and going to class as any other student in London was doing, I was just apart of CAPA. I feel that this program not being another campus program was vert special to me because I have never left home like this. It was liberating and challenging because I was on my own. It was a great way to see a different perspective of life within my work and within my mind. CAPA sets itself apart in that they do challenge you and try to fit the perfect internship placement for each student, it is a great thing that they have going for them, I would go through it all again that is how much I loved it.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Gabrielle: This experience has impacted my future in so many ways. When I was studying in London I truly felt like I was meant to be there for a reason. The arts are so different abroad and to be seeing that and learning that as it is my profession it was incredibly inspiring. I have new goals on going back to London for graduate programs and to truly start my life there as soon as I am able. I learned a lot about myself and what I am able to accomplish in this life and I will take everything I have learned through my future, it will always be close to my heart.

What is one piece of advice you would offer something considering interning abroad in London?

Gabrielle: One piece of advice I would offer someone considering to study abroad in London would be to experience something new each day. London is a huge place and with the accessible tube lines I would get off in someplace I had never explored before and find something amazing. Doing this made London my home and made me even more comfortable living there. Get out and go someplace new in the city everyday and you will have stories, people, and adventures to carry with you for the rest of your life.
