In addition to listing programs and reviews, Go Overseas has published hundreds of awesome articles and stories written by serial-travel addicts and new-passport-holders alike. These informative pieces serve to help our community deepen their knowledge of what it means to study, volunteer, teach, intern, or spend a gap year abroad (or just experience life in a foreign country!) None of these articles would have been possible without our Writing Corps Team and Contributing Editors.
What is the Writing Corps?
The Go Overseas Writing Corps is our larger group of (unpaid) bloggers. These writers come from a variety of different backgrounds and travel experiences. All of them have spent at least some time studying, teaching, volunteering, interning, or taking a gap year abroad and utilize their unique set of knowledge to create engaging and useful content for our readers.
Our Writing Corps writers contribute both guides (found across our site on various pages) and articles for our blog, while working directly with our content team to continuously grow as writers and learn best practices in the field.
How it Works:
Each month, you will receive a list of several article topics via email. Members can sign up to write these on a first-come, first-serve basis. After calling dibs on an article, the relevant Go Overseas editor will be in touch with expectations, logistics, and stylistic guidelines for the piece you are contributing.
You do NOT have to contribute an article each month, but are certainly invited and encouraged to. You can opt out of the Writing Corps at anytime after you have been selected.
Though this is an unpaid position, we will find unique and creative ways to reward our top contributors (and we don't just mean virtual high fives!). We do a great job of mentoring, encouraging, and introducing our favorite members of the Writing Corps to neat opportunities and connections in the industry.
Further, our best Writing Corps members are typically promoted to write for us as a paid Contributing Editor!
What are Contributing Editors?
Our Contributing Editors team is our core group of (paid) bloggers. Unlike most other travel blogs, we prefer not to accept pitches on a rolling basis, and instead receive regular submissions from a team of dedicated Go Overseas writers. We accept applications for our Contributing Editors team on a bi-annual basis. However, we always give preference to our most stand-out Writing Corps members -- especially those who have demonstrated professionalism, high quality of work, and enthusiasm for all things travel.
So, Why Join the Writing Corps?
If you're breaking into the online travel writing industry, are fresh off a wonderful semester abroad, or just looking to reach a bigger audience, contributing articles and guides to Go Overseas is an ideal place to start or expand! Why? We do a lot more than just publish beautiful-looking articles: we use best practices to determine what topics readers are interested in, and conduct thorough research to make sure our articles cover all the bases. You're not just refining your knowledge on a subject, you're developing your online writing skills.
Participating in the Writing Corps will get you exposure on the site, will help build your online writing portfolio, and will give you inside knowledge about what's happening at Go Overseas. Writing Corps members are given priority whenever we expand our prestigious group of Contributing Editors (Psst! Former Writing Corps members Kate Evans and Mandi Schmitt were recently bumped up!).
