Unforgettable Experience

Wow... just wow.... That’s exactly how I would describe my experience in New Zealand so far. When I was allowed to do a half year during internship for my communication studies in The Netherlands, I didn't doubt one second. I was struggling finding an internship in New Zealand, so I made the choice to let New Zealand Internships help me. I don't regret this choice a single day.
As soon as I arrived in New Zealand everything was already arranged for me. The guys fixed me a taxi which brought me straight away to my accommodation (thank god, because I was really jetlagged due to the 27 hours during flight).
I have to admit I was somewhat worries for making friends and meeting new people, but thanks to New Zealand Internships and their amazing weekend- and daytrips I’ve met even more people I could have ever dreamed of. All the trips (like rafting, surfing, skydiving and many more..) are just only part of the experience this company has given me.
I have been in many countries already, but New Zealand and Australia are by far the best I’ve ever been. Many thanks for this unforgettable experience guys!

What would you improve about this program?
The experience I've had was just to good, it shouldn't be legal..

Best time of my life

My half year in New Zealand as an intern from the Netherlands was perfect. I met a lot of new friends from different countries and every weekend felt like a small holiday. The company arranged may activities during the weekends such as a surf weekend in Raglan, exploring caves in Waitomo and rafting in Rotorua. Furthermore, my internship was also well arranged. Ronald and Marcel (Owners of New Zealand Internships) where very helpful!

My internship abroad

Hi, my name is Femke, born and raised in the Netherlands.

I have done my internship with New Zealand Internships in 2008 and this has been the best decision I have ever made!

I studied communication and needed to do a final years internship in order to graduate. Marcel (owner) helped me by finding a personal tailor made internship which matched both my personal but also my university requirements.

New Zealand Internships helped me with my travels to New Zealand and picked me up from the Airport. Very nice to meet someone you can trust after a long trip. They brought me to the student accommodation where I straight away met other interns from their program and they had organized a very warm welcome party (even though I was still jetlagged). The next day I had an orientation at their office and they brought me to my first day of work.

During my time New Zealand Internships organized a lot of activities and weekends away. These trips are a must do, because as an intern from New Zealand Internships, you get discounts to join these.

My whole experience in one word: Amazing!

What would you improve about this program?
If I could change something, I would have liked to stay longer

What do kind of internship do you do?

I am working for a great corporation that focuses on business continue and disaster recovery. So my company looks after other business and supports them in the prevention of disasters and development of aftercare procedures.

What kind of duties do you have in your internship company?

My main tasks is to develop a business continue plan so that in case something goes wrong other companies can keep on operating and functioning. Admittedly this task is very challenging since it involves many aspects I have to consider like “What to do during a fire emergency”?

How did you find this internship?

I was browsing through the internet and landed on New Zealand Internships website. There I saw the job description and the vacancy sounded really interesting to me as this was a whole new field of IT I knew nothing about. So I just came to NZ and wanted to see what other opportunities there are in the field of IT. If you want so, I broadened my horizon and I have to say that I like it very much!

What did you liked the most here in New Zealand?

That’s not hard to tell. Definitely skydiving! When I jumped out of the plane and was rushing towards the beautiful area of the bay of islands, that was a wonderful feeling I’ll never forget.

Can you describe your stay in New Zealand in one word?

Yes easily, “Awesome!”.

What's one attraction interns shouldn't miss while in New Zealand?

There are too many things you are not allowed to miss while being in New Zealand. You should do adrenaline pumping activities like Rafting, Bungee jumping and/or Swimming with Dolphins. But my favourites are the Milford Sound cruise and the hot pools at Lake Tekapo on the South Island.

What is one piece of advice you would offer someone considering interning abroad in New Zealand?

Make sure you will have an awesome goodbye party back home, because most of our interns do not want to leave New Zealand!

What's the most memorable story/experience you've heard from a past intern?

In 2008 we assisted an intern from Holland with a placement at one of the larger museums in New Zealand. At the end of her stay, me and my colleague Marcel were invited for her farewell party.

During this farewell party, the Maori people of the museum performed a traditional dance for us. They found it amazing that we organized her internship on the other side of the world and wanted to thank us for that.

Anything else you would like to share?

Besides the internship we focus on the interns social network. With our numerous trips and social activities, our candidates meet people from all over the world.
