How much (total) did you end up spending on this trip?

I am very interested in going abroad, and have always wanted to go to New Zealand. However, it seems like this trip is one of the pricier trips (with flight included). I was wondering if you can estimate how much in total you spent on this trip. Thank you!

The cost for my plane tickets/ISV program total came out to around $6,000. I can't remember the exact amount completely, but the most expensive portion was definitely the plane tickets to/from New Zealand. And I brought about $250 spending money with me along with my credit card. All in all I probably spent around between $6500-7000 on the entire trip!

Did people end up spending a lot with the day to day optional activities (skydiving, bungee jumping, etc...)? It seems like this trip in particular can add up really fast.

People who could afford to would, but there was some activities that even though I shouldn't have spent, it was well worth it. Bungee jumping was around 100 USD, but such an amazing experience.

I also ended up spending about $6000 on the entire trip. Outside of the plane ticket and ISV costs I think I spent an additional $350. To save money, I choose only one of the more expensive optional things (bungee jumping) then took advantage of all of the free options in the places we visited. If you're hoping to go all out and do all of the optional activities then it probably will add up just as it would in any other country.

The trip itself was about $4,000 but the adventure tour in New Zealand was pretty expensive when you take into account the drinks, food and extra activities we did. So if I had to estimate it I would tell her about $5,500 total after all was said and done.

I spent roughly $6500-7000 total, and I added on everything you could (skydiving, bungy, horseback riding through LOTR territory) as well as a few extra adventures during what little downtime we had. I also ended up bringing home quite a few souvenirs (namely jade). The airfare was by far the most expensive piece of the trip. Included in that total is also everything I had to get leading up to the trip (light weight winter gear and the like). I left a lot of my clothes over there when I came back because we'd been on multiple farms, and customs is super strict in NZ. Hope this helps! Oh! I also took the optional 5 days in Fiji, so that's included here as well.

Trip was $4000 base, $1400 for the flight, $360 for Optional Activity Package (WAY WORTH IT) and I spend around $300 on food/activities/drinks/souvenirs. Around $6000 for everything, and I did way more than most people do in their life on this trip.

I went many years ago now - around 2005/2006 I think.

Because International Student Volunteers is a nonprofit organization, I was able to fundraise over half the cost by asking friends and family and providing them with the Tax ID so they could write it off as charity for their taxes. I believe the total cost at the time was around $5,000 but I honestly can't recall specifically. Because I fundraised half, I paid very little for a month-long trip to New Zealand (including airfare).

I paid about $300, I think, to skydive over Lake Taupo while I was there as well as various amounts for souvenirs and such. I spent a little on food to eat at local restaurants during the first two weeks instead of only eating the food provided by ISV, but that was personal preference/choice.

I hope that helps. It was a fabulous trip and apparently alumni are frequently invited back to be guides for the second two-weeks (the adventuring part) for 2-months with most expenses paid by ISV.

All the best,
Anne

I think i ended up spending around 6500 USD. You can definitely cut down that price but i did almost all the excursions! Also I brought about $300 spending money and my credit card! Don't try to tell yourself you'll just skip doing things like bungee or skdiving because its incredible. best trip of my life! Also its cheaper to skydive here than in the US (only about $450 USD) .
