About Program
Explore Indonesia’s flourishing arts, diverse religions, and contemporary social change on the islands of Java and Bali. From Bali’s rice terraces, temples, and art forms to Java’s mosques, temples, and street art, discover how a pluralistic society navigates tradition and modernity. Study agriculture in a Balinese village, plant rice, cook traditional dishes, and learn about subak irrigation, local crafts, and traditional healing practices.
This program offers students the opportunity to earn a minor in Asian studies. Through this program, students explore Indonesia’s flourishing arts, diverse and historically tolerant religions, and contemporary social change that shapes sociocultural discourses on the side-by-side islands of Java and Bali.
