About Program

Study abroad in Rome and discover la dolce vita - the sweet life. Imagine studying art history as you gaze up at the Sistine Chapel, or learning theology just a few blocks from the Vatican. Life in the Eternal City is an experience of a lifetime you don't want to miss!

Students attend classes at the centrally located CEA CAPA Rome Center, or with CEA CAPA’s partners, the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) and John Cabot University. Courses at both locations are designed for students of all Italian language levels and are complementary, with business, Italian language, and social sciences taught at CEA CAPA; and politics, philosophy, and Economics taught at LUISS.

The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.

Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. CEA Capa Rome Review

I thought that CEA Capa in Rome was a fantastic program. It mixed getting a great cultural understanding of a new country with learning how to live, have fun, and learn in said foreign country. From going on weekend trips, to having group dinners, to playing in soccer tournaments, CEA gives many different avenues to enjoy time in Rome without having to do your own planning and spending your own money. Another thing that I really liked about CEA Capa was in the classes. A lot of the business classes helped me to understand how international businesses function and the projects allowed me to get hands on experience with international businesses.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would try to take full advantage of all of the opportunities that CEA gives you. All of the weekend or day trips you should try to take, unless unable. Also, you should try to do all of the after-school programs that they run, such as aperitivo and soccer tournaments.
Pros
  • Help support students learning
  • gives suggestions and helps in travel - gives subway passes
  • Trips, such as one to amalfi
Cons
  • Could have had more dinners and such
  • semi-small building

Study Abroad with CEA CAPA

This program lacked diversity, but the program itself was amazing. Most of the students in my program attended the same university, so it was hard to make friends. I also felt like those students from partner universities were treated differently from everyone else. I did love how we stayed in an apartment and how they had organized trips for us on some weekends. If you want to meet new people and make new friends, this isn't the program for it because it is very hard since the majority of students come from 3 main schools.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
We took a funded trip to the city of Pompeii and got a tour.
Pros
  • Good Communication
  • Issues take forever to be solved
  • Funded Trips
Cons
  • Lack of Diversity
  • Course Uncertainty
  • Language Barries

Studying Abroad in Rome: The Experience of a Lifetime

Choosing to study abroad in Rome, Italy was hands down the best decision I have ever made. I learned from a new cultural perspective and experienced real life in another country. CEA CAPA provided so many opportunities for me to immerse myself in the Italian culture. Living with an Italian roommate was one of my favorite parts of the program. I got to build a relationship with her, learn from her, and make a new friend that will always remind me of my special time abroad. Rome became such a special place for me. Every day was exciting in the city, even when I was simply going to class. I would do it all over again if I could. I cannot recommend study abroad enough.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to any future travelers would be to truly embrace everything offered in the program. CEA CAPA does a great job of making you feel like you truly have been immersed in the city. By the end of the program, I wasn't ready to leave because it had become like a second home to me. CEA CAPA offers so many trips, tours throughout the city, and lots of other activities. I got to play in a soccer tournament, go to dinners with our Italian roommates, and hangout with other students in the program. I loved every minute and truly felt like a Roman by the end!
Pros
  • Living with an Italian Roommate
  • Learning Italian
  • Activities included within the program

Studying abroad in Rome with CEA CAPA was the best experience of my life!

I absolutely loved my time in Rome with CEA CAPA. I absolutely fell in love with the city. The CEA CAPA staff was wonderful from start to finish, helping us with everything we needed. My classes were interesting. I took Italian, Art and Architecture, and Theology, all of which involved visits on-site to various locations in Rome, including the Sistine Chapel! I made some of my best friends there. Our apartments were in Prati, and they were beautiful and in such a safe area. The food of course was delicious, and we loved going to Aperitivo. Learning some Italian was awesome because the locals really appreciated trying to speak with them. Overall, my study abroad experience was the most wonderful time ever. I miss it every day and am so grateful I got the opportunity to live in Rome!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take advantage of being able to experience life in Rome. It is such a unique experience to actually live in the city rather than just vacation there. Also take advantage of the cheap and quick European travel! You will likely never again have the opportunity to travel this easily abroad.
Pros
  • Trip to Capri, Sorrento, and Pompeii, for free with CEA CAPA!
  • Visiting the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Castel Gandolfo, and more
  • Eating the most delicious Italian food

CEA CAPA Rome Review

I loved my time in Rome with CEA CAPA! I was able to travel with the program to difference neighborhoods in Rome and throughout Italy. The program was there for me before, during, and after my stay which was very reassuring. If I needed an extra blanket, they provided the day of. They also had activities throughout the semester such as pasta making and and movie nights which everyone had fun with. There were always familiar smiles in the offices ready to give a helping hand. I also took advantage of the Italian roommate opportunity where I met such great people.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moments abroad were when I was in Italian class. My teacher made learning fun and actually brought us to places around the city during my time there.

  • Great food

Experience Studying Abroad in Rome with CEA CAPA

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. The biggest growth I felt studying abroad with CEA CAPA was through my consulting course. In this course, I developed instrumental consulting skills for the profession through real-world experience consulting for an Italian company. I learned essential skills on adapting to the clients' wants and needs as well as how to be a professional. Additionally, CEA CAPA pushes students out of their comfort zone through the Italian course.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
The best piece of advice for future CEA CAPA students is to fully commit to the program by giving your best effort to learning about the city you're in, the classes you're taking, and the culture and language of the country you're in. Learning Italian helped me feel a lot more connected to the city and the people around me.
Pros
  • Personal Development
  • Professional Development
  • Leadership

CEA CAPA in Rome, Italy

My abroad experience with CEA CAPA in Rome was nothing short of amazing! I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, integrating the Italian way of life into my everyday routine. Through my CEA CAPA program, I lived with an Italian roommate, who helped me adapt to the different lifestyle and become part of the new environment. Rome is incredibly rich and beautiful, from the food and language to the history and the weather. With CEA CAPA's wide variety of class offerings, I spent the semester studying Italian, which helped me communicate with the Roman people. I was also able to take classes to help fulfill my major, advancing my academic development. CEA CAPA's program in Rome was truly a life-changing experience, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to study abroad in an incredible city!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Rome is a huge city, and there is so much to do all the time. Even being there for four months may not be enough time to truly capture it all. I would recommend travelers to take advantage of the time they have in the city and explore as much of it as they can. Enjoy the rich history and incredible monuments like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and the Vatican, but also be sure to find the niche and "off-the-beaten-path" places, too. There is so much to do and see in the city and sometimes wandering in different neighborhoods will lead you to some of the most beautiful things!
Pros
  • An extremely walkable city, plus the metro and bus system can take you essentially anywhere
  • The weather is always beautiful, especially during the fall semester
  • Italian people are super welcoming
Cons
  • Dryers are not a thing used for laundry in Rome - prepare to use clotheslines and drying racks!

Rome Became Home

My study abroad experience with CEA CAPA in Rome was nothing short of amazing. For one, during preparation, they were very helpful in the visa application process. They had very detailed and clear guides that reduced the process to simply following instructions and attending my appointment.
The CEA CAPA staff and professors in Rome were phenomenal. They hosted numerous check-ins with students to make sure our transition was going smoothly. Every time I walked into the building, I was greeted with a smile and a "Ciao!"

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-wracking moment was the first week of my internship. I was worried about what the Italian workforce would be like and how working 20 hours a week would fit into my schedule. Yet I overcame it by talking to the CEA CAPA staff about my worries, and they reassured me but also empowered me to have conversations with my supervisor and ask questions. Once I got into the groove, I loved my internship and was able to have flexibility throughout the week by working from home, and taking days off sometimes.
Pros
  • The kindest staff and professors
  • Lived in a super nice neighborhood in Rome, Prati, which is known as the "posh" neighborhood
  • Had a great apartment, full kitchen, laundry, and cleaning ladies that came bi weekly
Cons
  • Very strict about attendance and missing class
  • Field trip classes would sometimes extend beyond class time when considering commute to field site
  • Student portal was sometimes glitchy before departure
