Best 5 months of my life!

Studying abroad with USAC in Torino was truly a life changing experience. I was scared to leave my friends and family, moving to Europe not knowing anyone in my program. However, as soon as I landed in Torino I had already met such amazing people. Little did I know that I would make lifelong friends! We were a program of about 40 students and became as close as one group could possibly be. Torino is such an amazing city, from its architecture and art to food and culture! Our program directors, Eliana and Danielle, were extremely kind and welcoming and became great role models for us all. The program trips were so much fun and I encourage you to take advantage of all of them. We were fortunate to be able to visit Lake Como and a wine tour in the Piedmont region. If you are thinking about studying abroad with USAC, do it! It was truly the best 5 months of my life.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to take advantage of everything! Everyone says this, but you don't realize how amazing the experience is until its gone. And it goes by so fast! Go on every program trip, try as many restaurants as you can in Torino, and make friends with the locals. My roommates and I made friends with the people who lived in the apartment across from us and they showed us so many amazing restaurants and bars. I would also say to travel to other countries as much as possible, and go with other USAC students! The most amazing trips with the best memories were the ones that I traveled with big groups of others in the program. However, while it is fun to explore Europe, I would also say to stay in Torino as much as possible as well. There is so much to explore in the city!
Pros
  • The people- everyone is there to make new friends and find adventure!
  • The food- authentic Italian food is AMAZING!
  • The culture- Torino is such a beautiful city with so much history to experience
Cons
  • We had an issue with one of our roommates, the living situation just didn't work out, but our program directors were extremely helpful during that process and we got it sorted out!
  • It was common to sometimes feel lonely and miss home, but my friends and program directors helped a lot!
  • I had some issues with money, I didn't save enough! But it worked out.

Turin 2023

My experience in Torino was life changing. I went in with no expectations and I didn’t know anyone. I met some of my best friends to this day and we have planned trips to meet in the states the past two years since. I was immersed in the culture and Italian lifestyle while still able to freely travel on weekends and breaks. I went to 8 countries and 15+ cities which was made possible by the convenient location of Torino. The teachers and support staff made the process of being away from home much easier. My housing was very clean and well maintained. Couldn’t recommend this program more!

What was your funniest moment?
Group class trip to the Italian Rivera! Late nights on the beaches and beautiful sunsets.
Pros
  • New friends
  • New cities
  • New culture
Cons
  • Away from home
  • Language barrier
  • Overwhelming adjustments

The Best Decision

Deciding to study abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made, but it wouldn't have been as amazing as it was without USAC. The entire process was completely smooth, and you felt looked after and supported from the months leading up to the exchange right up until the end of it. Everyone I communicated with was prompt, informative and very very kind. During the exchange there were so many optional group activities to take part in that USAC had organised in order for us to make the most out of our experience. These allowed us to explore, see new sights, connect with and become close to the rest of the group, understand the local culture and so on. Without USAC's program I would've missed out on some valuable experiences. I would absolutely recommend going through USAC if you are thinking about studying abroad. I wish I could do it all again!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Just do absolutely everything! Take part in the group activities; you will leave knowing something, having seen something amazing, tasted something, met someone etc no matter what. You will likely miss it when it's over, so make the most of each little thing. Go down to the River Po or Parco del Valentino for a picnic on the grass; these places are so social and full of other students (both local and non-local), especially in the early evenings and the spring/summer months. Also, the shopping is great and the architecture is beautiful. Try plenty of new foods, especially some traditional Piedmontese cuisine while you are in the region. Make the most of the location and travel to other countries when you can - and don't forget the rest of beautiful Italy!
Pros
  • Great activities and ways to meet new people who will soon become family
  • The USAC coordinators are all so lovely and there to help whenever you need it
  • The study experience opens your mind to completely new cultures, foods, languages and ways of living
Cons
  • Homesickness - but your new friends and the USAC coordinators will help guide you through this, and it does get better after the settling in period!
  • Money...it is a long time to go away for, so I recommend doing so with some savings. Europe is expensive!

Torino study abroad

Studying abroad was the best thing I have done in my life so far. Not only was Torino a beautiful city with endless things to do, but it is where I met lifelong friends and memories that will never leave. The program coordinates were so amazing! Not only did they help with moving in, but they also provided us with great trips/knowledge about the city. Torino is amazing!! I went here not knowing what to expect and came back a whole new person!! If you are currently up in the air about studying abroad, I highly recommend it. It is what you make it!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-racking moment was just getting there. I didn’t know anyone else or have ever been out of the country. That in itself was the biggest hurdle I had to cross. Right away I put myself out there, talked with others, and made sure to be in the moment of each day.
Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Great/easy travels
  • Day trips with group
Cons
  • The heat, lol

Very awesome

Studying abroad is the best because you get to experience multiple cultures while having a spot to go back to. You also get to be immersed into the culture and you can meet new people across the country you live in. The experience is unforgettable and you meet so many people that you will know for a while after. This experience is an unforgettable experience and you can explore the other countries and areas near by. Trust me as some one who isn’t out going, it is an awesome experience and you should definitely try to explore what the world has to offer

Pros
  • Food
  • Travels
  • Sights

If given the chance, everyone needs to study abroad!

Going into studying abroad, I was overwhelmed and unsure if I had made the right decision. I was told by all of my peers that this was going to be the best experience of my life, however, naturally, in the back of my mind, I thought, “What if it’s not?” Throughout this experience, I learned so much about myself, was surrounded by the most supportive and loving group of people, and traveled to places I would have never dreamed of. That summer was such a pivotal moment throughout my college career, and I am forever grateful I was able to experience something as transformative as studying abroad!

I had a wonderful time studying abroad in Torino. I made so many great friends, experienced amazing cuisine and culture and learned how to travel internationally. Usac Torino has amazing advisors that not only watch over your academics and safety, but engage you into their city’s culture and lifestyle. I had a great time. I was able to travel to 4 neighboring countries during my time abroad including Germany, Switzerland, Monaco, and France. Studying abroad is truly a great experience and I recommend that everybody should do it.
