About Program

Like in any other developing countries in the world, the demand of English is growing incredibly high in Ghana. The knowledge of English is a gateway to good and high paying jobs and this trend has lured the young generation to learn and master the art of speaking good English.

The children in Ghana are very keen to learn and improve their conversational English. Most of the schools also put extra emphasis on English education. This project helps the primary and junior secondary class children between the age of 5-10 and 11-16 to learn English and also get education on math and science. Teaching resources are available for the teachers. Ghana has 3 academic semesters a year.

Volunteers can teach any subjects like English, Math, or Science in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools and engage themselves in the following activities:

Volunteering in Ghana

I've been here for only a week but for the moment I'm having a great time. Everyone welcomed me with open arms. Richard and Franklin took me around Accra and showed me where I was going to work. The Language and Culture course is very helpful and I learned a lot in only a few days. I recommend volunteers to do the Language and Culture program as it will help you fit in.
Although as a volunteer, it is important to bear into mind that the actual impact you make is very small, I feel like it is still worth it. Being able to put a smile on those kid’s faces is so rewarding!
Richard took me and another volunteer to Krokrobite beach where we all had a great time.
We also visited Accra (Accra is much more exciting than what Guide books say) as well as a pineapple farm (pineapple trees are not what I expected them to be).

What would you improve about this program?
More structure for what you would like the volunteer to accomplish while they are there that can be sustainably continued after they leave as well.
