There is no fee to volunteer with us. However, volunteers will normally have to pay their own accommodation and food while they are with us. Renting a private room will cost around 400($51 USD) Quetzals a month. In some cases, our volunteers stay with families in the communities in which they are working and therefore do not have to pay for their room.

About Program

This is a grass-roots volunteer program located in Las Cruces, Petén, Guatemala. Volunteers work in Las Cruces and the surrounding rural communities on projects set up by the town hall. These projects usually focus on women's rights and gender equality. It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Guatemalan culture, off the typical tourist trail, but still within a stone's throw from popular attractions such as Flores, the jungles of Petén, Tikal and other Mayan archeological sites.

This opportunity would suit those travelling independently through Central America who wish to spend some time volunteering along the way. While there is no fee to participate in this program, our volunteers will have to pay for their food and accommodation.

It is advantageous to have at least a basic level of Spanish, as volunteers will be working in communities where the vast majority of people cannot speak English.

Las Cruces

"I spent three weeks working in Josefinos, a village close to Las Cruces. I was living and eating with a family, and teaching English in the school, as well as giving Gender Equality workshops to kids. The organisation was very helpful and flexible with setting me up with my work and lodging in the community, while also flexible, allowing me independence to customise my volunteer experience. The community was both overwhelmingly welcoming and grateful, making the work highly enjoyable. 'Volunteer Las Cruces,' is different than many volunteer organisations, and truly serves as a link between people who would like to volunteer and communities that can use help with a variety of projects. The experience is for independent people looking for a unique volunteer experience, off the tourist trail."
