Sustainability

GIVE's mission is to inspire growth, empower global citizens, and ignite sustainable change worldwide. To truly inspire growth and achieve sustainable travel internationally, GIVE has adopted the Asset-based community development (ABCD) model, a set of proven best practices in sustainable development that mobilizes a community’s assets and resources as the basis for development. Furthermore, through providing hands-on and eye-opening learning experiences that foster authentic connections between participants and host community members, we can empower global citizens who will continue to spread GIVE’s values and ignite sustainable change worldwide.

Ethical Impact

Exploring the world with GIVE is all about responsible travel, but what does that really mean?
Mindful Tourism + Community Partnership = Economic Growth & Community Empowerment.

Part of what makes GIVE trips so special is being fully immersed in the cultures and communities we visit. We prepare all participants before travel and ensure they understand the culture and how to dress appropriately.

Best experience ever

This is one of the only programs I found that combined both helping people and the planet. This organization has deep connections in the community and does all it can to ensure that every project they take part in is as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible. The staff is very supportive and kind, and will not force you into doing anything you don't want to - they are very accommodating. They encourage you to think deeply about what you have done each day to really take it all in and get the full experience. They prepare you for your journey home and how it might be a bit difficult to readjust, and offer constant genuine support.

GIVE Nicaragua Summer 2023

This trip was amazing. Being able to see the people that are helped by the work we do was incredible and made it all worth it. Our guides were amazing (Shoutout Mike, Amber, and Moises!) and were super helpful with anything we had questions about. The community was full of awesome people that we got to meet. After all the work was done, we got to go to the volcanos which was just amazing. The people that I got to meet on the trip were all so awesome and I’m happy to say I have 27 new friends! Couldn’t recommend this trip enough!

Give Nicaragua

This trip was life changing and I would recommend it to anyone! We did so many amazing things to the help the community like digging out a foundation for a families home, improving the garden, planting mangrove seeds, and teaching English to local children. We also did a lot of cultural activities like making cheese and tortillas with the local women in the community, surfing, making bracelets, and salsa dancing! Some more highlights of the trip was going deep sea fishing, hiking up TWO volcanoes and getting to camp on one of them and sled down the other!

Pros
  • Learning the culture
  • Checking things off the bucket list
  • Meeting new people

GiveVolunteers- an unforgettable experience

My trip to Nicaragua with Give will be remembered forever. My guides Amber and Mike were amazing leaders who knew how to safely get things done while also ensuring everyone was having a good time. The trip as a whole was an amazing way to explore the country while also giving back and supporting the people of Jiquilillo. It was so fulfilling to garden with the locals, help build a house, and teach the local children English. I highly recommend this trip to EVERYONE! It’s the perfect way to experience new adventures such as sand boarding down the youngest active volcano in Nicaragua in a sustainable way. Give Volunteers is a wonderful organization that I am beyond proud to support.

Pros
  • Pre-planned activities
  • Sustainable travel and giving back to the local community
  • Amazing memories

Amazing experience

This experience was exactly what I wanted for my first time visiting a foreign country alone. I've always wanted to visit Nicaragua after learning about it, but I also wanted to leave a positive impact. The people of Jiquilillo were super kind and welcoming, and the work we did at the construction site and garden was rewarding for both us volunteers and the community. We also had downtime to enjoy the amazing views, and talk to people in the community. A great introduction into volunteer work (:

Pros
  • Lifetime friendships
  • Sustainable volunteer work
  • Knowledge of different cultures
Cons
  • Homesickness

Playing hard while working hard

Overall a great experience im sure I’ll never forget. I’ve been on a few trips now with GIVE and the organization hasn’t failed me once. This trip is no exception to that trend. The experience was culturally and personally enlightening on top of being an absolute blast. We definitely worked hard doing volunteering in construction, education, and gardening, but with the trips NEWLY added excursions we played just as hard as we worked. For sure a trip I’m privileged to have experienced and I can’t wait for my next opportunity to go back.

Pros
  • Amazing cultural immersion
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Extensive excursion count
Cons
  • A small amount of down time

The coolest thing I’ve ever done!

My GIVE trip to Nicaragua was my first time traveling out of the country, and I am SO glad I decided to go this route.

I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, and I certainly did. It was the time of my life! I climbed two volcanoes, sandboarded down one, learned to surf, released baby sea turtles, taught English, and got to know a vibrant and loving community nestled in the northwest corner of Nicaragua.

Not only was it fun, but it was insanely educational and enlightening. It taught me about traveling responsibly and to be environmentally conscious. I learned the importance of spending my dollars on people who really need it rather than corporate tourism companies or fancy hotels. I think every human being should do something like this in their lifetime. Getting out of your comfort zone and learning about other cultures is the best way to experience this big wide world.

I am SO incredibly grateful to have experienced some life changing moments with this incredible organization and my group of volunteers. GIVE is the bomb.com and I highly recommend going on an adventure with them. <3

Pros
  • Trying new things
  • Tons of adventure
  • Meet lots of awesome people
Cons
  • Definitely not luxurious
  • Volunteering is hard work
