Amazing. trip of a lifetime.

This trip was incredible. Getting to know staff, other volunteers, and patients at the clinics was incredible. On this is trip, you might be out of the your comfort zone, but that will turn out to be such a blessing. As our coordinator often said, the more you put into this trip, the more you put will get out of this trip! During this trip, remember to keep in mind that your primary concern is to help other people and try not to get too frustrated with hot clinic locations or uncomfortable bathroom situations. Overall, this trip will be one to remember forever, and it will change your life!

What would you improve about this program?
More emphasis on extreme heat and precautions to prevent some of the discomfort (i.e. mini fan).

Life Changing Experience

This experience was an experience that I will never forget. It is truly a life changing experience, and really teaches you to appreciate the little things in life. Seeing the look on the patient's faces when they get the help that they really need is truly heart warming, and for me made the experience so worth while. I would recommend VIDA to anyone!

Doctors that care

I took part in a VIDA veterinary trip in Nicaragua. I found the doctors to be extremely attentive and caring of the animals and the volunteers. They were never too far away when any volunteer needed help with a patient or had a question that needed answered, and they were all great teachers as well. At the end of the day they were able to let loose and have some fun with us volunteers. Sharing and contrasting our different experiences in veterinary medicine is one of the greatest memories I have of my trip.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish there would have been more time with the homestay families in Nicaragua.

Great Trip!

Excellent and flexible, we were able to change our itinerary the last day so that we weren't in hot buildings but instead on the Pacific beach all day. Great need for medical help in this area and interesting cases. Learned a lot.

Overall experience

The program was run very well! The interpreters were great to work with as well as the doctors! Lester and Amy were outstanding! I wish though we could have done a few more fun things on our rec days like go to a beach for a day or something like that

What would you improve about this program?
A few more interesting things to do

EYE OPENING

The communities we served at was a reality check for us as volunteers. We should feel privileged and blessed, but not better than those we helped. It was eye opening, just because the people we helped live their lives so differently.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE

Never though I would get so much hands on experience and have the chance to help so many animals in need. Absolutely amazing experience!

I definitely learned a lot. The vets were amazing, really took the time to explain everything and make sure we had a chance to learn and try everything we wanted to.

We were given the opportunity to carry out consults, give vaccines, prep for surgery (inserting catheters, endotracheal tubes under vet supervision), and even assist during surgery while the vets explained exactly what was going on.

It was also really great to be able to interact with the people. Staying with our homestay families and seeing how different their lives are was really an eye opener! I could not have asked for a better "mom" in the homestays!

Overall wonderful experience. You won't regret it if you choose VIDA!!

What would you improve about this program?
I would love to have had more large animal days on the vet trip

VIDA Experience - Vet Team

The trip was a fantastic, life changing experience :) Got to try new food, make new friends and experience how people live in Nicaragua by living with homestays. I learned quite a lot from others, the vets, and from my own mistakes. Will definitely come back again in the future!

What would you improve about this program?
Staff was great! Gio was an awesome tour guide :)
Just wish the trip would be a little cheaper so it could be more affordable for everyone !
