About Program

The pagoda was established in 1968 and is currently led by Thay Thuh Nu Nhuc Hue, a lay Buddhist Monk. There is a small number of Monks at the Pagoda that provide spiritual guidance to the local community and also care for the fifteen mainly orphaned children who are training to become Monks. The children range in age from 2yrs to 16yrs. The pagoda is located on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City so any volunteer who ventures here will have a truly Cultural experience. One of the Monks can speak some English as can one or two of the local village youth. ABV will provide local national volunteers to help with language support when needed.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with A Broader View Volunteers Corp for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Our school in Hanoi provides accommodation and meals for 35 children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The children come from remote areas of Northern Vietnam and their families are either too poor to send them to school, or there are many other difficulties faced by the family, such as the loss of a father or mother. The school provides them with a start in life through their primary years and assists them to move into the High School system.
