Should I present a salary requirement or accept whatever is offered to me?

Answer

Like any job, you should definitely negotiate. Talk to some other teachers in the area about what they make and set a goal for yourself.

We have some salary guides that could be helpful: https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/how-much-can-you-earn-teaching-english-abroad

I think it depends on the position. Some schools and teach abroad companies have very strict outlines for how much they pay, especially if you're a new teacher. If the salary is outlined in the application materials, chances are it's set in stone. If you don't have any experience or anything to negotiate, it would be hard to get them to budge on that. However, if they're not as clear you should definitely negotiate! I negotiated with my current job and they offered me a higher salary and a raise after three months!
