About Program
Carpe Diem is proud to offer our longest running program in Central America with two professional Overseas Educators (OEs) and a cohort of travelers. Over the semester you'll venture through Guatemala and Costa Rica, exploring how local peoples and their traditions meet the modern world, while simultaneously experimenting with your own schooling and career futures.
Living alongside Indigenous communities and their contemporaries, you'll delve into opportunities to be inspired by social justice and sustainability entrepreneurs and activists. Our OEs will provide risk management and mentorship along the way - coaching you to be an independent, savvy traveler.
From the interior of Guatemala to the sea turtle havens of Costa Rica; from the indigenous Lago Atitlán and her spaciousness, to urban Spanish schools with homestays - this program is a beautiful synthesis of past, present, and future, that will help you ground future contributions for Self and the world around you.
This program offers a well-rounded mix of Spanish immersion, community service, adventure, and cultural experiences across multiple Central American countries. Participants appreciate the supportive leaders, close-knit group dynamics, and opportunities for personal growth, though some note the accommodations can be basic and the schedule intense. Many find the homestays and hands-on activities especially impactful for language learning and cultural connection.
