About Program

A truly off-the-beaten-track expedition, trekking and camping in the stunning Himalayan foothills of Northwest Yunnan. Students undertake a week-long project in which they learn about the ancient trade route (the Tea Horse Caravan) discussing both its ancient anthropological, political and economic influences, and the differences between this and modern trade routes today. Travelers will "rough it" with a multi-day trek through breathtaking mountains and yak pastures to an isolated, holy lake, all the while interacting with local Tibetans and building bonds with their classmates. Beyond the hike, students will get the chance to give back to the Shangri-La community by helping a local family with farm work and participating in NGOs.

This WildChina program is perfect for schools requiring a blend of Culture, Academia, Adventure and Service.
