About Program
We do not offer paid internships or cater for volunteering experiences. To be eligible for a Work the World nursing internship, you need to be in nursing school, or have equivalent clinical experience (MD or equivalent). We can also not accept premeds.
While placed in Kandy, nursing interns will have the chance to experience a breadth of different departments across our partner hospitals, working alongside specialists and drawing from their impressive depth of knowledge. You’re highly likely to observe and help treat tropical diseases unfamiliar to you. Conditions are also often presented at critical stages - such as tuberculosis, dengue fever and other complaints like malnutrition.
In addition, interns can also live and work in a rural Sri Lankan village, where mornings will be spent learning the ancient art of Ayurvedic medicine from the local healer. The afternoons will involve trekking through the jungle, taking ox and cart rides, swimming in nearby lakes.
