Why did you decide to study abroad with GlobaLinks in Wales?
Peter: I decided to study abroad with GlobalLinks (formerly EuroLearn) at Swansea University since it was one of two universities in the world I found that I got an approved match for an engineering class I needed to take. The other option was in New Zealand, but I wanted to see Europe so I picked Swansea. In addition, Swansea seemed like it would be a great fit, being close to London and right on the beach! GlobalLinks was referred to me by my university's study abroad office as well.
What made your study abroad experience unique and special?
Peter: This study abroad experience was so unique since I got to live in a student village with a mix of other Americans, as well as students from England and Wales. Everyone was extremely friendly and the student life at Swansea was amazing! Furthermore, the location of Swansea on the Gower Peninsula was awesome! All you had to do was cross the street during a break from classes and you were on the beach. A short bus ride away is some of the best beaches in Great Britain, and I enjoyed the pub atmosphere, as well as the independence to take the bus wherever I needed to go in the city.
How has this experience impacted your future?
Peter: This experience has impacted my future greatly. I am more independent--not afraid to pick a country, book a flight or train ride, and just go there with friends without any worries. I was fortunate enough to visit England, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Austria, and Greece while I was abroad and that experience was life-changing. Professionally, I feel I can work even better in groups now since I have been exposed to many different cultures and feel like my social skills have increased as well. Academically, I got to learn history, engineering, and accounting from a British perspective, which was very interesting. I highly recommend studying abroad if you can!
