What is your favorite travel memory?
Arriving in Vancouver and meeting the EA team - I could see Cypress Mountain and could also see the ocean and the bustling city. It was exciting to be in such a big place having traveled from a small town in England. Meeting the team is a favorite memory because I instantly felt like I had a good crew around me for the winter. We were all in the same boat which was reassuring, but it was also awesome to know we were going to be living, working and playing together.
Which destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is most overrated?
Most overrated is definitely Whistler - its a fun town and the runs are sweet but you have to be up for hours of queuing and I'm more into the lower key resort towns with a local field atmosphere. Probably the biggest disappointment at Whistler was how hard it was to get a reasonably priced drink! Most underrated is Methven in New Zealand, its got everything you need and isn't too far from a main city but the vibe of the town itself is awesome. There is one ski field (Mt Hutt) so everyone works together and with only a few smaller bars and pubs everyone ends up drinking together and by the time the season is over its pretty heart wrenching saying goodbye to all your new mates.
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
With ski instructing its all about your own ability to market yourself, every client is an opportunity for more business and the better you can manage that and encourage them to come back and request lessons with you, the more income you will make on snow.
How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?
Yes absolutely - I had improved my skiing ability and been forced out of my 'shell' a bit. I think having the EA crew around has made this happen a lot faster than I expected and plus its awesome to have mates to ski with on down days and in between lessons.
What unique qualities does your company possess?
EA offers a guaranteed job offer which is pretty unique, as far as the resort goes, its pretty sweet to have a ski field in one of the worlds biggest cities that can still maintain a chilled out vibe and good crew!
