What is your favorite Au Pair memory?

A young girl posing for a picture.

LoPair offers a once a month opportunity to take part in Culture Classes and that is also a part of my work. I try to focus on various aspects of Chinese traditional culture that arouse the most interest in our Au Pairs.

We enjoyed Chinese calligraphy, dumplings-making, Chinese painting, pottery, Tai Chi, and etc. Every time they were immersed in joy of exploring Chinese cultures and attracted by the totally different things from their owns.

I was very gratified when most au pairs told me that the culture classes are the highlights of their au pair life. At the end of their program almost all of them give us their a thank-you cards and that really makes us have a sense of achievement!

What about the future of the industry? How do you think Au Pair abroad and international education will change over the next 10 years?

Au Pair program is a new concept for Chinese families and gradually develops since 2008. Au Pair abroad is a cultural exchange program and becoming an au pair not only introduces you to the foreign culture by taking care of foreign children - you will also gain access to their languages, culture and many opportunities to connect with au pairs from worldwide.

US President Barack Obama announced a "One Million Strong" initiative at a joint press conference with visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping—“If our countries are going to do more together around the world, then speaking each other’s language, truly understanding each other, is a good place to start.”

A group of people gathered.

I think Au Pair abroad is a sun-rise industry especially for Chinese families and with the promotion of cultural exchanges Chinese families will be fond of this international way of communication, educating and child caring.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Beautiful Scenery.

Hope Marshall, the ex au pair from America, experienced a great year with her host family in China and they have developed a good transnational friendship. This summer Hope's host family went to visit her and two families had a lovely time together.

They talked a lot on the differences and similarities of Chinese and American cultures. Hope’s father and Hope showed her host family America's capital, Washington DC. She brought them hiking around her neighborhood and showed them the house She grew up in.

The host kids played in the park that Hope played in when she was their age. They really got the true American experience! And Hope plans to visit China next summer. I was impressed the amazing fate of these two families.
