Title:
Operations Lead

Photos

Henry worked at Clare College Cambridge during summer 2018 as the Campus Coordinator (CC). This is a sort of site administrator and coordinator, who makes sure the program is delivered as planned. In August 2019 he was promoted to Operations Lead, and now works at Oxford Royale Academy's Head Office in Oxford.

What is your favorite travel memory?

In the summer of 2014, I cycled across Europe for a month, with two friends. We started in Berlin and ended up in Venice, via seven countries. It was an incredible experience - of course sometimes hard work, but cycling is such a great way to travel. It's fast enough to go far, but slow enough to see everything closeup. We went through many famous cities and towns, including several capitals. And, of course, the Alps were absolutely stunning.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have learnt so much. How to prioritize better, how to manage complex, fast paced situations. Taking ownership of projects whilst simultaneously being able to adapt to environmental or management changes. Delegating, and more importantly trusting and empowering, others to do a good job. My communication skills have also improved.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

This: "The experience that Oxford Royale provided me with was one of the most memorable. I interacted and made friends with a diverse bunch of students with similar interests to my own. It gave me the opportunity to work toward an subject that I might choose to further and come back after the two weeks as a more independent individual.

The classes were enthralling and creatively taught. A series of techniques and concepts were honed. I was pushed to work harder but have come back a more responsible and diligent person. It was the first time that I was not ‘coddled’ and truly given a chance to take care of myself. All the counsellors were approachable at all points of time. We were taken on a series of excursions but given a chance to also explore Oxford on our own and get a taste of college life.

For somebody that has had very bad experiences at courses in the past, this has truly changed my entire perspective. It’s helped me not on explore my chosen field and make lifelong friends, but also gain confidence and greatly contributed to my character. It gave me the chance to understand the responsibilities that are inherent with independence and opportunity. This was truly the best two weeks of my entire life."

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would chose Broadening Horizons or New Perspectives. Both of these courses allow you to chose 3 classes, giving you the chance to try out a few different things! I'd probably like to learn about subjects I didn't cover at school, or focus on at University. Psychology would be a really interesting one. I'd take creative writing as well I think. And finally something to help my career - perhaps Leadership and Team-building.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Oxford Royale Academy is unique for one simple reason: our staff. This drives our success, and is the key behind our philosophy. It's all very well saying that we are "world class" on our website, but the reason behind this is all of our staff are passionate about delivering excellence. No one will stop at 'sufficient' - we are all and always looking for the best.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Putting the customer first. For us this obviously means putting the student first. We try to do this through every element behind the delivery of a course. Right from marketing to systems, logistics to teaching. We are always asking - will the student enjoy this? Value it? You have to keep asking these questions because its easy to get carried away in the efficiency of a system, your personal tastes, the status quo... etc. But everything we do has to be for the student.
