Job Description

If you are looking for a vacation, this job is not for you. If you are looking for the toughest job you'll ever fall in love with - consider this unique opportunity. If you have Primary teaching qualifications and experience, are willing to teach off the beaten path (100km from the nearest road), if you are dynamic, creative, enthusiastic, self-sufficient, flexible, have a positive attitude and get along well with yourself and others, then consider applying for this amazing opportunity.

A family that manages the conservation project within the North Luangwa National Park in Zambia - one of Africa's last remaining great wildernesses - is seeking a teacher to home school their three children - ages 7 to 9. The working week is five and a half days Monday-Saturday mornings. The successful applicant will be teaching the children in the mornings focusing on academic curriculum, art, drama, sport, music and adventure; and in the afternoons supporting the Project’s conservation education activities implemented surrounding schools, but flexibility to help with other assorted assignments is desired. Saturday mornings are for lesson planning.
A UK certified teacher with knowledge of the British curriculum is strongly preferred but the successful applicant does not have to be a UK citizen. We're looking for the right individual who will adapt to this unique environment - gender, age and qualifications are therefore flexible for that perfect candidate. Health and physical fitness are essential prerequisites. Previous experience working/living in remote locations in Africa or elsewhere and/or in conservation education are strong assets for the role. One teacher is required, however it is possible for couples to apply provided the non-teaching partner possesses a complimentary skill set, which is beneficial to the overall conservation project (please enquire).

Your personality is as important as your teaching qualifications. Self-sufficiency and awareness, practicality, flexibility and an ability to help out in a number of situations including interacting with local staff and foreign visitors, as well as teaching the children, are paramount to your enjoyment of the location and success in the role.
This is very much a lifestyle opportunity living inside one of Africa’s national parks. An active first-world social life cannot be a priority in this remote location but reliable internet access is available. This tough, yet rewarding, 1-2 year opportunity starts in mid-August 2018.
Once yearly flights, a monthly stipend, housing and medical insurance is provided. The teacher will live in a self-contained open-plan one-bedroomed simple house near to the family in this incredible wilderness area. The teacher is responsible for paying for their own groceries and personal items.

Short listed candidates will be provided with references from individuals that have lived and worked here - this opportunity comes highly recommended - but will only work for an individual with the right attitude and qualifications. If you are interested in this potentially life changing opportunity - apply for this amazing teaching position.
