I don't usually write reviews online but I feel like I need to say thank you to CareerUp. I applied to a few intern abroad programs and CareerUp was the only program that was transparent about what positions I would be matched with before I had to pay a big fee. From reading reviews of the other programs I knew that many times the internship matches were not great. When I applied to CareerUp they told me exactly which positions I was matched with and they guaranteed I'd get one of my top internship choices (they delivered on this promise). I thought this was really cool and I'm surprised they are not getting more PR for this. I don't know any other company that can guarantee your acceptance to an internship that you choose. They seem to have some pretty advanced tech to make this happen. Aside from actually getting me accepted to the internships I chose, their team was very professional and me and my parents were really happy with the experience overall. My advice to other people looking to intern abroad is to do it with CareerUp. It is a big investment to intern abroad and I would not risk going with a program where you don't know your internship matches before you have to commit financially.

Internship in Barcelona

So... I could say so much. It was an exciting, scary, wonderful, challenging, eyeopening experience and so much more. It was my first time living abroad and I am so thankful I did it. I might not have another chance like this when I can just pack up go. I had no real responsibilities and I nothing to lose!

I worked for a really cool startup company. The team there was so friendly and welcoming. They were working to expand into the US and they were really thankful to have me there and asked me a ton of questions about what I thought and how people in the US would think about their website. I felt like I was able to make a real contribution and I learned a ton in the process.

I can't want to go back and visit with my new colleagues and friends in the future. Oh, and the food is amazing!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Just do it. You're young, you're going to get bogged down with life and responsibilities. This is the time to just go for and get out of your comfort zone!

My internship in London

CareerUp was great and made it super easy to find my internship in London. They are a great program because they are transparent about which positions you are matched with. Before I had to pay any program fees I got to choose exactly what positions I could be placed with. The housing and everything was also great. I met a lot of cool people from all around the world and made a bunch of friends that I am still in touch with. I'd recommend the program for anyone who likes to travel and needs an internship.

Manila Adventure

All this was possible because of my admissions counselor, Alex DiMeglio. We first connected in December of 2018 and he helped me throughout this whole process. Anytime I had a question, I emailed Alex, and he would always respond. If he didn’t know the answer to any of my questions, he made sure he gave his all to find the answer I was looking for. I never felt that Alex would ignore me, or would leave me on my own; he was always there whenever I needed assistance. Alex is truly amazing and made this whole process doable and I am very grateful to have spoken with him and build a relationship with him.

Career Up provided me with an amazing opportunity and has increase my chances for potential job search and it gave me a chance to explore another country. I truly recommend this company for anyone looking for internship opportunities and and a chance to travel

I loved my program because my internship was flexible with work hours. The usual work days are long in the Philippines because they are dealing with other companies in different time zones. They let me also take off before the weekend so I could be able to travel around the Philippines. I got the chance to go to Cebu, Coron, puerto Princesa, and do Nido while I was there for a month. I got to see whale sharks in Cebu. When I was in Coron, I got to make ready great friends with the tour guide and we still talk till this day. Everyone is so friendly in the Philippines. In el Nido, I did one boat tour. When I went to puerto Princesa, I got to see one of the wonders of the world the underground river and it was really interesting. I enjoyed my trip and wish I could’ve stayed longer.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
when I stepped off the plane and got into my first grab ride.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program because it was an opportunity to travel to another country and experience an entirely new culture. The internship that was provided allowed me to expand my knowledge in finance and greatly helped in making my resumé look stronger for potential employers in my field. I also chose this program because it was an opportunity to be out on my own.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

My program provider assisted me with dates and extension for the tuition payments, and also provided me with a summary of cultural differences for the country I traveled too. They also connected me with my host company and explained the day by day for interns. All I was in charge of was buying my plane ticket.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

My advice would be for individuals to be open-minded. Traveling to another country can be a scary and intense experience and traveling with a closed mind can impact how an adventure can go. I went on my trip with an open mind and was excited to meet new people, try new food, and experience their nightlife.

Being open-minded really made the adventure one of my greatest experiences.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average day is working 8 hours in your host company and really gaining experience about the day to day of the company. My co-workers were the most welcoming people and really helped me fit in their company.

After work, I would hang out with my other peers and explore the area while meeting new people who welcomed us to their country.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was traveling to a whole new country. I feared if their people would be welcoming, worried about how their currency works, and how I would get from place to place. The way I overcame this fear was by simply going out there and doing it and quickly adapting to how the country runs. Fortunately, my program adviser was able to assist with these issues and made my experience very easy to adapt too.

What would you have done differently?

The one thing I would have done differently was to have gone out more and explored other areas near Manila. I was able to explore Cebu as well and it was an amazing weekend.

My first month was full of adventures, but in my second month, I had decided to stay in. Although I enjoyed staying in and living by myself, I would love to have had explored what the Philippines has to offer, but I do not have any regrets.

Overall, it was an amazing trip.
