Fudan pleasure

I had the pleasure of attending the Go Abroad China's Chinese language programs and studied at Fudan university in China. the process and experience with them was pretty smooth and convenient and within weeks i got confirmation, visa and flights booked to China. they handled every step of the process and after arriving at the Shanghai's airport they were there to pick me up and take me to my place which was a nice apartment. weekends we had tours and city exploring and cultural places had classes. it was a 8 weeks program and we finished it amazingly with best results.

I spent 5 months in Beijing

I left Melbourne with literally zero plans and said why not give this a shot? My host family in Haidian turned out to be amazing—my host mum made me breakfast every morning and always helped me with my Mandarin which i really felt like a home. The PKU campus oh come on it was Huge and honestly beautiful. Classes kept me on my toes, but I actually enjoyed them. On weekends, I'd go to hutongs or head out to the Great Wall with friends I’d just met from all over the world like I was really amazed and By the third month, I could bargain at the markets and even hold real conversations with my host brother. I came back way more confident and now I want to go to China for job.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
i would say it was Long xu tang which i honestly liked it
Pros
  • good language support
  • airport pick up and visa support was welcoming
  • Kind and well host family

Switzerland/Chinese Chef now

I came from Switzerland and honestly living with a Chinese family that I’d never met made me worried at first, but as soon as i showed up the family was really welcoming, and always smiling. i went to the Beijing Language and Culture University, which made me feel like i am at the united nations and people everywhere packed into one campus. morning all about the classes, and then city tours, university exploring and so many others. i loved cooking with my host family which made me feel like i was a Chinese chef now. thanks to Go Abroad China for the experience.

Don't try Stinky tofu 😁

I spent four months at Beijing Cultural University through GAC and honestly, it was a wild ride. The classes ugh Super intense. Still my Chinese shot up way faster than I expected. My host family was awesome too. They really made me feel like part of the family, which helped a lot.

Now, the commute took forever. Annoying, but honestly, totally worth it.

As for food—let’s just say I got adventurous. Stinky tofu was by far the weirdest thing I tried. It smelled like straight-up garbage, but the taste wasn’t as bad as I thought. My host brother nearly died laughing watching me eat it.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Stinky tofu was by far the weirdest thing I tried.
Pros
  • Honestly Food was amazing except the Stinky tofu
  • city exploring was by far good
  • support and communication from program provider

From Beginner to Confident Speaker

Choosing the three-month Chinese Language Immersion program in Beijing was a transformative experience. The structure of morning classes at a local university combined with afternoon cultural activities created a perfect learning rhythm. However, the true game-changer was my homestay. My host family’s patience and eagerness to include me in daily life—from grocery shopping to family dinners—accelerated my Mandarin in ways classroom study alone never could. We visited the Great Wall, practiced calligraphy, and I made lasting friends from around the world.

Studying at Peking University while living

Studying at Peking University while living with a Beijing family was the most profound educational experience I’ve ever had. The university's rigorous academic program pushed my Mandarin to new levels, with teachers who didn't just explain grammar—they unpacked the cultural meaning behind every character. But the real transformation happened at home. My host family welcomed me as one of their own, turning everyday moments into immersive lessons: bargaining at the morning market, discussing current events over dinner, and celebrating local festivals together. This seamless blend of structured classroom learning and authentic daily life accelerated my fluency in ways I never thought possible. I didn't just learn the language; I lived it, and left with both a deeper understanding of China and a second family to return to. For anyone seeking true mastery and connection, this program is exceptional.

This program achieves what textbooks cannot

This program achieves what textbooks cannot: it turns language acquisition into lived experience. The academic instruction at the local university was robust, but the true classroom was my homestay in Beijing. My progress was measured not in workbook chapters, but in the growing ease of breakfast conversations with my host family, in understanding the jokes of the fruit vendor downstairs, and in dreaming in Mandarin. The cultural immersion—from making jiaozi during Spring Festival to visiting temples with my host siblings—embedded the language in memory, emotion, and daily ritual. I didn't just learn to speak Chinese; I learned to feel its rhythm and navigate its unspoken rules. This is education at its most profound and personal.

This program is a masterclass in accelerated cultural fluency.

This program is a masterclass in accelerated cultural fluency. By day, I navigated the rigorous academic environment of Peking University, where world-class professors deconstructed Mandarin with scientific precision. By night, I was immersed in the warm, unstructured curriculum of family life—where tones were corrected over steaming bowls of noodles, and vocabulary lessons happened during grocery runs with my host father. The synergy was transformative: classroom theory became living language, and abstract characters gained emotional weight through shared stories. I didn't just achieve proficiency; I developed an intuitive feel for the language’s rhythm and soul. This experience offers more than an education—it offers a second home, and a profound, personal bridge to China.
