Great Teachers and Convenient Location

I had a very good experience at LTL Language School in Shanghai. The teachers were friendly, patient, and always willing to help students improve their Chinese. The classes were interesting and practical, so I could use what I learned in daily life very quickly.

The program was well organized, and the school atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. I also liked the location of the school because it was convenient and easy to access by metro. There are many cafes, restaurants, and useful places nearby, which made studying in Shanghai even more enjoyable.

I would recommend LTL to anyone who wants to study Chinese in Shanghai and experience local life at the same time.

I can finally speak Chinese Your Review (Minimum of 200 Characters

I have been studying at LTL Chengdu for 4 weeks, 4 hours per day in a group of 4 people. I can tell my Chinese speaking skills became significantly better. Thanks to teacher Daniel and my wonderful classmates from around the globe. It was my first time to come to Chengdu and I like that the city is very compact and convenient, have many things to visit inside and outside of the city. Tibet is very near. There are many mountains where you can do hiking. I had a great time! I would definitely come again.

My time at LTL Shanghai and Chengdu

I've been at LTL (Shanghai and Chengdu) for half a year now and so far I can definitely recommend this school to anyone who wants to study Mandarin! I have a lot of positive things to say so i will try to make it as organized as possible.

Organization:
Mojca was very quick to respond and the application process went smoothly. Check your Documents for the Visa Application though, since my first ones had incorrect information on them.

Management:
I had some problems with my Homestays (First in Shanghai due to miscommunication , second in Chengdu due to lack of cleanliness in the apartment). Both times the schools were very quick to react and changing Homestays was no problem. In Shanghai they reacted a bit too quick, which led to more additional problems with my homestay since I didn't get the chance to talk to them first before the school did. So if you encounter any problems with the Homestay talk to them first before you tell the school about it because LTL takes these problems very seriously and wants to eradicate them as soon as possible. It turned out very good in the end and I'm grateful for their quick response and good advice, just keep in mind that sometimes you can fix these issues yourself, without having the school get involved.

Location:
Both the Shanghai and Chengdu school were very central, with lots of restaurants and other interesting places around them, which was very convenient.

Shanghai School:
I made some of my best friends in Shanghai and I would love to go back someday. Both of my teachers, Kristen and Jason were very kind and made my Chinese progress from absolute 0 to HSK3 in 5 months. They didn't just teach me the words in the book and the grammar but additionally taught me more frequently used words, other alternatives and put me to the test in regularly making me use those words and structures. The lessons were very easy to follow and made me learn a lot about chinese culture and history. They were very helpful whenever I had problems (whether that might be setting up an account on a platform, ordering coffee for the first time,...) Especially Kristen went out of her way to help us and even accompanied my friend to the hospital. Jason on the other hand was very involved in freetime activities, often accompanied us to eat and taking us to his leisure time activities, such as archery. I loved this and me and my friends always had a lot of fun while having a chance to connect even more! These activities are definitely a great opportunity to make friends. It was hard to say goodbye to them and I hope I'll see them again!

Chengdu School:
When I first came to Chengdu my teacher PanPan and I became friends immediately. She is very quick to pinpoint my weaknesses and helps me to erase them very quickly. She is also very assuring and gives me a lot of motivation to study. Classes with her always feel very comfortable, even though she pushes me lot, especially when it comes to writing characters. The wellbeing of her students is very important to her and she makes sure everyone is included! She also regularly goes out with us and plans fun trips, even taking us to travel to another city and organizing the entire trip. We all had different interests but she made sure that everyone got to see the places they wanted to visit and do the activities the showed interest in. (Which was only another demonstration of her great organization skills).Making friends in Chengdu felt as easy as in Shanghai, thanks to her. I want to go to University in China and Panpan helped me look up a lot of universities, their requirements and even called one of the schools! She isn't only a teacher that wants to help, she truly is a friend that wants to see you succeed. Even when not at work she spends time with her students and simultaneously teaches a lot about cultural differences, how to bargain prices and a lot of words people use on the internet that otherwise might confuse people that only work on the HSK books. Because of that, it has also been a lot easier to communicate with Chinese people roughly my age because I understood more of their inside jokes and references. All of the Chengdu teachers are amazing, that dedicate a lot of time and passion to their students and you can tell they all enjoy doing their job. They helped me gain a lot of confidence in my chinese speaking and even taught me Sichan hua! (The local dialect). It was a bit of a struggle at first to understand the locals here but after their explanation of pronunciation and how certain letters are used differently I've become way quicker at understanding it.

In total LTL is a good school that I would definitely recommend to other people who want to study chinese efficiently!

6 hours daily 1-on-1 intensive in Beihai – my honest review

I studied at a language school in Beihai, doing their intensive program: 6 hours of 1-to-1 classes every day, with 2 of those hours being "safari classes" (basically real-world practice). I had two different teachers, and I honestly couldn't be happier with both. Super professional, always friendly, patient, and clearly well-prepared. It was very demanding, but I already noticed improvement in my listening and speaking after the first week.

The administration was what really surprised me – absolutely unparalleled. They not only professionally prepared and managed everything related to the study program, but also went way beyond that. They helped me arrange a weekend trip, book tickets, and even accompanied me to the immigration office when my flight got delayed and I had to extend my visa. Stuff you'd never expect from a language school.

100% recommend this school. Hope I can go back some day!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Set up all the local apps (some of them still don't work - so frustrating!). But don't hesitate to ask your teacher or the school administration, they'll even call the customer service if necessary to help you get the stuff done!
Pros
  • Small, family-like school, individual approach
  • Highly professional
  • No foreigners in the city, full immersion
Cons
  • I'd appreciate more details about the housing options and individual home stays (don't hesitate to ask before you choose, don't just rely on what the homestay writes or doesn't writes about themselves).

Time of my life in Beijing!

After being recomended LTL by a family member I nervously set course for Beijing. Being alone in a big city for three months and a whole 8714 kilometers from my home is a rather nervewrecking experience as one can imagine. But Ltl did not leave me hanging for a single moment. With their great classes and even greater staff I, in a short time, have been transformed in a true mandarin speaking citizen of this beautiful city. The accomodation is great and the classes are intense but have allowed me to improve massively in a short amount of time. In short: I fully and wholeheartedly reccomend LTl

LTL Beihai

I had a great time in Beihai. The class length was perfect for learning but not getting overwhelmed. Yang 老师 was a fantastic teacher, and I really enjoyed walking around the city. Beihai has the really relaxed beachside vibe that I was looking for I felt safe the whole time and everything was clean. Savannah was great, she did a good job coordinating fun and organized group events, and was helpful with giving advice about local attractions and traveling. Overall, I’m very pleased with LTL and glad I chose Beihai.

Always happy in Chengdu

I have just returned from my second stay in Chengdu and can warmly recommend the LTL language school. What makes the school truly special are the four main teachers, who work together in perfect harmony and create an exceptionally welcoming atmosphere. This sense of familiarity helps students overcome their fear of speaking Chinese and makes learning feel natural and relaxed.

My teacher Panpan stands out in particular. She is witty, lively, and always brings humor into the classroom—there is never a dull moment, and learning with her is a real pleasure. Her English is excellent, which allows her to explain even complex grammar rules clearly and effectively. Studying with her is both enjoyable and highly instructive.

Great experience with teacher Daniel

I really enjoyed my time with LTL in Chengdu! I stayed for 2 weeks and did 6 hours a day, 4 of which were group classes and 2 private. All in all great experience! Huge thanks to Daniel for being such an incredible Chinese teacher during my time with LTL in Chengdu! He’s kind, hilarious, and great at explaining the nuances of the language. Our group lessons were always the highlight of the day thanks to his interesting topics that got us very deep into Chinese language and culture :) Highly recommend! 谢谢 Daniel 🫰
