Mandarin in Beijing

I spent two weeks at LTL Beijing as part of a six-week trip through China, and it was honestly one of the highlights of my entire journey. In just a short time, I met so many amazing people who quickly became friends.

The staff were incredibly welcoming from day one, which immediately made me feel at ease. My teacher Lilia deserves a special mention. She was both warm and attentive, always mindful of how I was progressing, yet still managed to pack in a impressive amount of vocabulary and grammar. I left every class feeling like I’d genuinely learned something.

Beyond the lessons, LTL offered a great variety of activities that brought closer the chinese culture and history.

Summing up my experience at LTL, I have to give 5 stars and I’m already thinking about coming back to take my Mandarin further. I would recommend LTL to anyone looking to learn Chinese in an engaging, friendly environment!

Great experience at LTL Language School!

I attended a 2 week language course in Beijing and had an extremely wonderful, educational, and memorable time. The program and communication were already perfectly organized before classes even began.

I also couldn’t have imagined a better or more friendly teacher for the course than Lilia. Her teaching was of the highest quality, conveying not only linguistic knowledge but also cultural customs and interesting historical facts. At the same time, she made sure to involve every student and ensured that each individual was supported according to their needs.

I am committed to continuing to develop my Mandarin in the future, and if I ever have the opportunity to attend a language course in China again, I will certainly go to LTL School!

Great experience

I would like to share my experience with LTL School, located in Taipei. This school, specialized in teaching Chinese, offers a high level of teaching quality. The classes are well-structured, tailored to individual needs, and the teachers are very skilled. In addition, the whole team fosters a great environment and offers engaging extracurricular activities. I especially appreciated the work of Sisi, whose pedagogical approach, combined with the supportive team and fun activities, really helped me progress. If you are looking for a reputable school to learn Chinese, LTL School is definitely worth considering.

LTL Language School

I’ve been at lTL Language School in Taipei for two weeks and can wholeheartedly recommend it. Right from the start preparation and booking went smoothly and I was sorted into the right level for my Chinese proficiency- thanks to Greta, Riona and Alin. They offer different classes, optional accommodation and a few extras. I chose group class (4h) in the morning and one-on-one lessons in the afternoon (2h). Overall this was pretty intense and one could consider either reducing the hours or making it more playful with their safari classes where your teacher takes you to different places in the city. However, I learned a lot in my six hours per day and both my teachers Anqi and Vivian made sure that the lessons fit to my level. They really made it fun and engaging and encouraged interaction and conversation. The one-on-one classes were a great place to review specific grammar that I struggled with and to further practice talking and listening.

I usually joined the lunch group - Riona took us to several restaurants and helped with ordering the right food. The school also offers different optional activities like Mahjong, traditional pottery or cooking.

If you can, I would recommend staying for at least a month to really benefit from the immersion.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Consider staying for a month or longer if possible.
Consider which lesson combination (group class or one on one) best meets your needs
Be aware that traditional characters are not that easy to read in case you studied simplified characters
Pros
  • Good lessons and organization
  • Helpful and friendly staff
  • Enjoy Taipei
Cons
  • Taipei residents are quick to switch to English so you should be persistent if you want to practice Chinese

LTL Beihai

I stayed for 6 weeks in Beihai starting around HSK2-3.

About Beihai:
In January is the quietest period, the weather can get cold and stormy, with intermittent warm sunny days. The city is around 1 million people, with various small towns and old streets glued together with high rise districts. The food here is not spicy, with heavy seafood influences, although you can also find northern cuisines as well as some western restaurants.

The high speed train to nanning makes travelling around guangxi and further very convenient, and we were able to take sleeper trains from there all the way to Chongqing for a weekend able to be back in class by Monday morning.

The School:
The location is a little strange, at the top floor of a shopping centre, although that made it very convenient place to get coffee or food afterwards, and it is very central. Yang's teaching is very consistent, and she helped iron out the flaws in my mostly self taught chinese. When I arrived my vocabulary was reasonable but my grammar, listening and speaking were all quite awful. Within a few weeks I felt i had improved markedly, which made day to day life easier haha.

Savannah is the school coordinator, and she organised weekly+ events and hangouts with both locals and other students. Some of my favourite moments of my time in China were when we travelled to nearby towns for a local bbq or festival that I would never have found out about alone. It was moments like those that kept me engaged and wanting to learn the language.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
The classes and activities can be what you make of them. The teachers won't make you do homework, and a lot of locals will want to practice their english with you, more than help you with your chinese. A lot of students are very beginner level, so if you only talk to them, that might also be in english. You can also order everything online through a QR code / translated, and we have met people that have lived in china for years without speaking a word of chinese through a mix of these.
Pros
  • My Chinese improved a lot
  • Everyone was fun and friendly
  • Cheaper and quieter than some of the big cities
Cons
  • Can't really swim at the beach

Great experience, very comfortable and good for learning

My name is Sophia and I am from Australia. From December 2025-March 2026, I’ve completed around 180hrs of 1-1 study at LTL and I have found it to be a fantastic experience!

I studied under teachers Pinwei, Jane and Jia. I found all of them to be really engaging, inspiring and encouraging teachers. The 1-1 format worked quite well for me as I wanted to do lots of conversation practice, and I found all teachers were very helpful with this and were able to really tailor the lessons to my needs. In addition, we also did some cultural activities, such as calligraphy, playing mahjong and Chinese painting. I think this made the classes really enjoyable and also helped increase my cultural knowledge. I found that this sort of environment and setting really accelerated my Chinese learning journey, and it was also very relaxed and enjoyable. I liked how student-centric LTL was.

LTL in general is also a very comfortable environment. Alin and Riona in admin/ at the front desk were always very welcoming and helpful, and they are both very knowledgeable about Taipei and the local area. Overall, they help foster a comfortable environment for students to thrive. I would definitely recommend LTL to people interested in studying Chinese in Taipei! Thank you LTL!

Great experience at LTL Taipei

I really loved my time at LTL. I originally signed up for group classes but ended up adding one-on-one lessons because I was enjoying it so much. Everyone there is genuinely kind and easy to be around, and the staff (especially Riona and Alin) were always super helpful with both school things and just life in Taiwan.

I also really appreciated the community side - things like group lunches, pineapple cake workshops, and movie nights made it easy to meet people and feel at home. I’m really grateful to my teachers Alice, Sabrina, and Juju too. I learned a lot and had a really positive experience overall.

Fun in Taipei

Ltl is a great place, personally ive found their lessons fulfilling and comprehensive. You can tell that everyone there is enjoying their time while learning. The after school activities give a great environment to practice Chinese and learn the culture. The focus on speaking the language is a huge boon as well, perfect for people who wish to use Chinese to travel Taiwan. That doesn’t mean that the writing portions are lacking, in fact you can expect to learn how to write in Chinese for things like: slideshows and creative writing. Overall a great experience to have!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Whenever I would have to order something from a restaurant I would have to put that Chinese I learnt to the test. Thankfully the school adequately prepared me!
Pros
  • Fun
  • Free snacks and coffee
  • Focus on speaking the language
Cons
  • Group classes can be fast paced
