Summer in Scotland

This program was great. The staff was so kind and accommodating, welcoming me in as soon as I arrived. The teachers truly cared about each of us as students and did all they could to help us succeed in our courses. The classes were fun and interactive. Additionally, we had the opportunity to ride multiple times a week which was a blast. The horses were so well behaved and it was so much fun. It was also so easy to go into Edinburgh for a night or weekend in our free time. Also so easy to go to other places such as Dublin and London.

What would you improve about this program?
The only complaint I had was that I wish we had gone to the grocery store the same day that we arrived.

I had so much fun!

The city was incredibly safe and I never felt uncomfortable anywhere I traveled to. The staff was absolutely wonderful and kind. They tried their best to accommodated any needs you have, for example when I got incredibly sun burned, they took me to the store to get aloe. Can not recommend enough the atmosphere create here and the wonderful girls I was paired with. There was no drama and the scenery was stunning. I would absolutely love to do this program again and will cherish all the memories and friends I have made.

What was your funniest moment?
Being drunk after bar crawling with friends and getting a free ride on the train because we made the conductor laugh.

This program was such a cool experience. I am so glad that I was able to have this opportunity. I was able to learn so much about equine through the program. I was also able to explore a whole new culture that I have never been around before. It was a little difficult at the start but i was able to get through it and ended up having an amazing time. I hope that I could participate in a program similar in the future. The staff was extremely kind as well as the other girls who joined me here and made me feel welcomed even as an introvert.

What would you improve about this program?
I would improve the information about what to bring. several girls including myself were told not to bring a helmet and ended up having to share.

I had a great month in Scotland!

I had the greatest time studying equine anatomy and fitness at Scotland’s Rural College this past month. The program was well planned, organized, and properly executed. My favorite part was getting to ride multiple times a week at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre. It was helpful to be able to practice our anatomy lessons on horses before and after our rides as well. There was plenty of time built into the program to travel and explore Edinburgh and surrounding cities which I appreciated!

I had a great time!

My month-long equine study abroad in Scotland was an incredible experience that blended classroom learning with cultural exploration. We studied equine anatomy, physiology, and fitness in a hands-on, engaging way while surrounded by stunning Scottish landscapes. Highlights included visiting the iconic Kelpies and attending the Royal Highland Show, where we saw Scottish agriculture and horse culture up close. I gained a deeper understanding of the global equine industry and connected with classmates who shared my passion. This program gave me a fresh perspective on my studies and memories I’ll always cherish. I highly recommend it to any animal science student.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Say yes to everything you can! Take every opportunity—whether it's a group outing or a spontaneous adventure. This experience goes by fast, so soak it all in and make as many memories as possible. Be open-minded, even if you're tired (and yes, you will be tired!). The long days are worth it, and some of the best moments happen outside the classroom. Have fun, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

I had the time of my life!

I came to Scotland with little to none riding experience. I was nervous to come with no experience, but they were very understanding and accommodating to my needs. They were amazing teachers, teaching me the basics of riding. They were constantly making sure I was comfortable and never made me do something that I was uncomfortable with. By the end of the program I was much more comfortable with riding and the overall experience was very beneficial to my learning. I was able to become more comfortable around horses and learn more about them.
