Highly Recommend

As someone who was nervous about studying abroad, after spending the month here I cannot recommend this program enough. The staff and faculty are so friendly and accommodating and truly made the most of this experience. The courses are very manageable and the riding was so fun. Additionally, the campus is beautiful, my friends and I would go on walks everyday to see the campus and animals as well as watch the weekly events at SNEC. It is also really easy to travel by train or plane to other countries on the weekends.

I am in complete awe of how amazing this place is, and I simply don't want to go home! I will definitely leave a piece of my heart here in Scotland for all the great times and memories. The people are sweet, the nature is beautiful, and the animals are adorable! This trip has ruined me in the best way because I just want to explore this beautiful country and never leave!

Equine Study Abroad Review

The experience was fantastic! While completing your program, you will complete two courses; equine anatomy & physiology as well as equine fitness. Both courses are interesting and applicable to real-life situations in the industry. The staff and professors here at Oatridge are so wonderful and do their very best to help you with anything you need during your time here. You also get the opportunity to ride during your time here. The horses are one, adorable! and two, a ton of fun! Edinburgh is about 45 minutes away and will keep you busy in your free time. I am not a city girl but I have absolutely loved my time in Edinburgh!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure you bring a rain jacket and lots of layers! Weather in Scotland is unpredictable and changes frequently!

Scotland Study Abroad

Super fun! The instructors ad everything on campus is super friendly and willing to help with whatever you need. The facilities were nice and the equine facility is gorgeous! Edinburgh was so much fun to explore, there is so many sights to see. Even outside of Edinburgh the sites are gorgeous. Its super easy to travel in Europe so we went to Ireland our first free weekend. Overall, this trip was unforgettable and I will definitely be coming back to Scotland because of this trip.

I will say it is very difficult to get to the city. Its not as cheap as the orientation packet makes it seem. There was some miscommunication with Adelante which made me feel very unprepared.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing was how late the sun goes down and how early it comes up.

Totally recommend!

The program was amazing there is great views, great people, and great animals! There is so much to do and plenty of time to do it SRUC works with you and tries to let you do everything you want to do and more. I learned so much and had so much fun. The only problems I had are with adelante, they gave us the wrong contact numbers, told us not to bring our computers, and not to bring helmets. Which SRUC was able to work around and find solutions to. I definitely recommend this program just go around adelante and talk to previous attendants instead.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure you meet up with the other people in your group to try and plan trips before you all go. That way everything is cheaper and you can enjoy your time there instead of having to plan out all the trips you want to take.
Pros
  • Staff was awesome and super helpful they tried to accommodate as many people they could.
  • The scenery and natives are fun and out going they don't hate Americans as much as everyone thinks they do.
  • There is always something new to do if you are willing to search for it.
Cons
  • Adelante obviously did not do all of their research that they needed to do, they were just as uninformed as we were.
  • Adelante had incorrect information, we were told not to bring computers or helmets and our group just got lucky that most people ignored it.
  • It is very cold here.

Great Experience

This was a very good opportunity and gave me the chance to explore and learn all about Scotland! The staff were awesome and willing to help with anything. Riding is one of the most fun parts! The instructors and horses are great and make it so much fun. The courses are difficult, but the professors do everything in their power to help you understand. We also had lots of time to travel or go explore on our own! That made it fun to be able to go and do things on your bucket list to learn about Scotland itself!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
We went and hiked up Arthur's Seat. It was an absolutely amazing view!
Pros

Incredible experience!

Although I was in a foreign country, I was able to find other people in the program who were a lot like me. We all were placed outside of our comfort zone, but we all wanted to explore and learn everything we could. I really loved how we had the freedom to travel to nearby countries. We had lots of time to explore. I also enjoyed the fieldtrips they had planned for us, such as going to the Kelpies and the Royal Highland Show. The staff was very welcoming and supporting of us. Anything we needed, they were willing to help.

This was an incredible experience

The staff was exceptionally supportive and always willing to help. The program curriculum was challenging, but not too difficult and the riding experience was wonderful. The lessons were always fun and lowkey which helped make it more enjoyable. I enjoyed the fieldtrips they had planned, all of them were engaging and a ton of fun, especially the Royal Highland Show. The free weekends given to us was a great opportunity to travel within the UK and out to other countries in Europe; it was a great way to experience more cultures and get out of my comfort zone.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
On one of our free weekends, a few friends and I traveled to Paris to watch the FEI Global League of Champions show in front of the Eiffel tower. It was the quickest trip ever as we were only in France for approximately 30 hours, but we had the time of our lives.
