I encourage any student getting involved in study abroad to meet locals and see a different side of their city! Thank you CEA!

Amazing Time In Granada

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in Granada's Spanish 230 Study Abroad Program, and I can confidently say that it was a transformative experience that exceeded all my expectations. This program not only provided me with a deeper understanding of the Spanish language but also immersed me in the rich culture and history of Granada.

The curriculum of Spanish 230 was expertly designed to cater to students at various language proficiency levels. Our dedicated instructors were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly supportive. They tailored the lessons to our individual needs, ensuring that we were both challenged and comfortable in our learning journey. The small class sizes encouraged active participation, allowing us to practice speaking and listening in authentic contexts.

One of the highlights of the program was the opportunity to live with a host family. This experience was a game-changer for my language skills. Conversing with my host family in Spanish during meals and everyday activities pushed me to think on my feet and use the language naturally. It was amazing how quickly my confidence grew.

Beyond the classroom, Granada itself served as the ultimate classroom. The city's historic architecture, bustling markets, and vibrant street life offered countless opportunities to practice what I was learning in class. Exploring the Alhambra was a particular highlight, as I could appreciate its beauty while understanding its historical significance, all thanks to the insights gained in class.

The program also included various cultural excursions and activities. From flamenco dance lessons to guided tours of local museums, every activity was a chance to expand my horizons. The organized trips to nearby towns allowed me to witness the diversity of Spanish culture and dialects, further enriching my experience.

The support network provided by the program coordinators was outstanding. They were always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and ensure our safety and well-being. This made adjusting to a new country and culture much smoother than I anticipated.

In conclusion, the Granada Spanish 230 Study Abroad Program was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that significantly improved my language skills while immersing me in the beauty of Spanish culture. If you're looking for a program that balances academic rigor with real-world experience, all set in a breathtaking location, I wholeheartedly recommend this program. It's an investment in yourself that you won't regret.

CEA Study Abroad in Granada, Spain

My experience with CEA CAPA was very positive. Throughout the process of applying for the program, arriving, duration of the program, and even afterwards it felt like I had support, and they were happy to answer any questions I had. The process was pretty straightforward. I would study abroad with CEA CAPA again.

Studying abroad is an invaluable experience, both personally and professionally. It’s an opportunity to have experiences that you may never have had if you didn’t go abroad. I wouldn’t have taken that trip to Bilbao and met up with old Spanish friends. Stayed out until 3 am and ate street Shawarma a few nights a week. Ate pizza in Andorra with two Argentinian guys. Or my personal favorite experience, meeting up with a friend I met in Costa Rica in 2019 later reuniting in Spain three years later. These are all experiences that I’ll be able to call some of the best times of my life.

Pros
  • Interesting Classes
  • Safe City

My time in Granada

My time in Granada is something that I'll never forget. I stayed with a host family for three months with the CEA CAPA program. The program in itself was so easy to be in, because all of classes were laid out for us to choose, and there was a ready made schedule of all the trips we would be attending. The CEA CAPA trips were my favorite part about being in the program, because they were completely planned out by staff, and all we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves. Each trip was so much fun, and we learned so much from the tour guides that were provided for us. The accommodations were always wonderful and it was such a relief to not have to plan every detail of the trip like we had to for our own personal trips. I always felt safe with the staff and we got to see and learn so much!

Pros
  • Great views
  • Friendly people

Fall 2022 Semester in Granada!

I loved my three months in Granada, Spain, and I wish I could have stayed longer! CEA's staff members in Granada are fantastic and helped me feel welcome from the moment they picked me up at the airport. My favorite part of the experience was living with a host family. My host mother treated me like one of her children and was incredibly patient through our many communication stumbling blocks. I learned so much by playing board games with my host siblings, joking at the dinner table, and watching TV with my host mom during siesta. I am grateful for the connections I made and the tremendous improvement I saw in my Spanish speaking and comprehension skills. Overall, Granada is a beautiful city full of incredible people who will be your guides, professors, friends, and study-abroad families. I highly recommend this program!

Pros
  • Living with a host family
  • CEA planned excursions to places like Morocco and Sevilla
  • Opportunity to volunteer at local schools

My time in Granada

I loved studying abroad in Granada with CEA because the wonderful trips we took with the program. Each trip was strategically planned out, with wonderful amenities and activities. Each trip had very interesting and educational tour guides that benefited us very much and left us with so much information about where we were. It was reliving to not have to plan these trips by ourselves, and just go with the flow and enjoy the experience. Also, we were accompanied by CEA faculty the whole time, so we always felt very safe and taken care of.

CEA Summer travels to Granada

I studied abroad in Granada, Spain through a Spanish-intensive program led by CEA. The CEA on-site staff were excellent in suggesting side-trips, as well as helping us find great study spaces in Granada. I was able to immerse myself in the culture, especially because I stayed with a host family on-site. I couldn't have asked for a better experience with CEA, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore a new culture with a program that matches your preferences.

Intensive Spanish Language (Summer 2016)

Just a month abroad in Granada was far too little. This city will be sure to steal your heart, just as it did mine. Despite the blistering heat of summer, I had such an amazing time exploring every rincón and tasting almost every (free!) tapa.

The local staff were very helpful and led many cultural excursions throughout the city and the surrounding community; I was able to learn so much about the culture and history of Andalusia. Having my intensive Spanish course for four straight hours each morning was difficult to get used to at first, but it gave me the rest of my day to take a siesta, spend time with my new friends, and enjoy the nightlife in Granada.

I opted for a residencia-style housing placement rather than a host family and was lucky enough to have my own room. The staff at the residencia were very kind and understanding of my then-low-level Spanish skill, however, as a very independent person it was somewhat weird to have my laundry done for me and to not cook my own meals. As I quickly learned, many places in Spain do not have air conditioning, which made the conditions in my room somewhat hellish during the hottest hours of the day.

That aside, I was able to make tons of amazing memories in Granada; I miss my time there immensely -- the sweatiness on the other hand…
