About Program

The Johannesburg School for the Blind is the sister charity to Children of Fire, so many of our students are burns survivors in between surgeries and the others are blind students from the area. Our philosophy is we take the children whom no one else will teach. We need teachers always.

We offer volunteer positions, as the school simply isn't funded well enough to pay full salaries. We can offer a small salary to teachers if they cannot come on a volunteer basis. That said, teachers are able to live on-site and get food on-site so living expenses are covered. Teachers are given the opportunity to have on-site Braille training and training to educate blind learners. They will be challenged to think outside of the box and encouraged to incorporate tactile learning aids into the classroom. Since we are not a government school, teachers have the opportunity to take their classes off-site for learning.
