Set in the visually stunning location of Indonesian Borneo, this project gives volunteers the unique opportunity to aid in the rehabilitation of 200+ orangutans and 50+ sun bears! The project established by BOSF (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation), set up shop in Samboja Lestari, a rainforest area that desperately needed restoring. More than a million trees were planted and alas the forest was reborn.
This inspiring project houses educational playgrounds which have been built for orangutans to learn important forest skills, and orangutan islands were created as a stepping stone for these apes to live in their natural environment before release or for those who will live here long-term due to illness or disability. Volunteers will aid in crucial enrichment making, husbandry and general upkeep of the sanctuary improving the lives of the orangutans and sun bears permanently residing here and helping the project to prepare more of these great apes for their return into the wild!
