This is a mutual opportunity for self-growth and a unique insight into the obstacles those with special needs must overcome daily. Besides teaching selflessness, volunteering with children with special needs gives such children an enjoyable time and a confidence boost through educational activities.
The best treatment regimens are the result of an individualized treatment plan formed by a team of health care multidisciplinary professionals. The plan will be based on the severity of the disability and should involve patients, families, teachers, and caregivers in all phases of planning, decision making and treatment. As a volunteer on an inclusion project, you will work alongside local staff who are supporting a range of children who have down syndrome, who are deaf or who have other types of physical disabilities. You will help to run a classroom, mealtimes and participate in fun activities such as music and art sessions. Be prepared to improvise!
