In Jamaica, with Jamaica International Projects, I had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. It really taught me a lot. Although I was the one teaching the kids, I myself also learned a lot about Jamaica, its culture, and its people. I was very happy seeing the kids smiling because of me. This of course, needed effort and a lot of work but it was totally worth it. I was preparing for this trip long before I got there. I was from the first moment very excited about it. However, I did not expect to have such a great time. I taught french and volunteered in an orphanage. Each gave me something different to remember and I can admit that I really miss it now. I think about it very often and I would really like to go back or at least do something similar the soonest possible! I love offering my help to the others and in Jamaica this happened under the best circumstances; the people were polite, the place was beautiful and safe. I recommend it to everyone who has the will to help and who wants and likes to work hard. Volunteering is not about saying that you did a good deed but about working hard and wanting to do what you are doing!

Why did you pick this program?

I picked this program mainly because I liked its flexibility. As I am still a student and I have school, I could not be missing for more than a week. I also liked the place a lot, as well as the variety of activities the program offers.

What do you tell your friends who are thinking about going abroad?

In my opinion going abroad in necessary in order to become a complete person. You don't just learn, but you also live in a place totally different from yours. Knowing new cultures and seeing different sceneries is essential and adorable!

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I would probably give two advices to someone going in the program I went to. First of all to bring a lot of donations because the kids are really in need of them and they would get really happy (toys and games in general are preferred). The second advice I would give to someone following my program is to be prepared to get exhausted but probably more satisfied than ever before!

What's your favorite story to tell about your time abroad?

Really, I don't think there is a specific one, every day there was different and unique! What was very funny during all the days, is that the kids could not stop touching and braiding my long blond hair.

How many new people you get to meet?

Really a lot! Considering that I went by myself, meaning without other kids which may have also joined this organization. Only the kids I met were around 300, plus the teachers in the school, the ladies in the orphanage... MANY people and all of them cheerful, helpful, and unforgettable!
