About Program
On this unique expedition, you can both get up close to Baja’s friendly gray whales and also participate in hands-on sea turtle research with local conservationists. After the first night in La Paz, you will spend three nights at a whale watching camp in Magdalena Bay, along the Pacific coast. The group will have multiple whale excursions during the day and presentations in the evening.
Your group then moves to a turtle research camp in another part of Magdalena Bay. Here, you will camp for two nights with local researchers with the organization Grupo Tortuguero and spend two nights studying the black turtles (a sub-species of green turtle) that live in this Bay. The turtles feed in this area and the researchers catch them in nets and bring them back to the campsite to collect data including weight and length. You will be able to participate in this research and then help the turtles return to the water.
