Contribute to the medical welfare of the remote San community in Namibia and experience unspoilt African wilderness. Assist the resident doctor and nurse to provide primary healthcare to the local community.
The clinic where you volunteer is dedicated to the health of the marginalised San Bushman community, one of the oldest cultures in the world, who live in extreme poverty. Medical volunteers support the resident Doctors and Nurse and contribute to outreach clinics in local schools and villages. Volunteers may also train Community Health Workers to learn new first aid skills and techniques.
During your stay as a medical volunteer, learn about the diseases affecting the local population and how to treat them; learn about the ancient San Bushman, their way of life and the problems which they face. Depending on your experience, you can expect to undertake basic clinical skills, history taking and patient examinations as well as obstetrics, family planning and counselling.
