Join People and Places as a volunteer in Kathmandu. We support two social enterprises here.
Sabah is a community owned program set up to strengthen the livelihoods of home-based women workers. Women who join Sabah use their traditional skills in textiles, food and crafts and receive the training and organisation needed to enable them to produce these goods at the quality and consistency required for the sales market. Production teams are organised in community groups providing a secure working environment, where childcare can be provided and training given in technical production and in areas such as leadership development. The volunteer program currently supports the community base at Khokana, a semi-rural suburb recovering from substantial damage sustained in the earthquake of 2015.
Karma Coffee is a coffee boutique providing employment and training to local producers and artisans, especially women.
A wide range of volunteer skills can be used to support both these enterprises.
