Located in the province of Chanchamayo, FIMRC's Project La Merced works to improve access to healthcare services on the edge of the lush Amazon jungle. Project La Merced partners with medical facilities in town while also reaching beyond the town to provide programs and services to rural indigenous communities.
Volunteers have the unique opportunity to observe and rotate through different departments in the La Merced Hospital such as infectious disease, tropical medicine, PT, and the OR. Volunteers are crucial in helping carry out our health campaigns in rural indigenous communities by taking glucose and blood pressure readings and measuring heights and weights. A highlight for many of our volunteers is often working with the sweet kids in pre-k's and kindergartens, educating them on topics like nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation.
Project La Merced will provide you with a unique Peruvian experience and leave an impact on both the community and you for a lifetime!
