About Program

Help conserve the Elephants and other wildlife of Sri Lanka in Wasgamuwa National Park. The aim of this project is to save elephants, other biodiversity and their habitats by helping the local communities.

Go back to the very basics, in a stunningly beautiful part of the world, helping local people and the local wildlife. You’ll do work that is really valued and that makes a significant difference to people’s lives. And the location is breathtaking! The activities on this project are diverse - one moment you could be observing elephants overnight in a tree-house, and the next you could be helping to reduce human-elephant conflict within the national park. A real gem of a project!

Colombo Zoo Placement

I would recommend this program to anyone who has leadership skills, and is a problem solver. The Sri Lankan people I worked with at the zoo were very indifferent to the volunteers and my work there was extremely self-guided. I enjoyed my stay there but to really make a lot of impact took a lot of perseverance. Ultimately however, the animal enrichments I was able to take part in were very rewarding. The other work that I was involved with there was not too difficult and we had lots of free time to explore the zoo or city, and to travel on weekends.
I stayed with a few other volunteers in a beautiful house in Ja-Ela. The long drive to work every day in bumper to bumper traffic is all part of the typical placid Sri Lankan lifestyle. Living with the Sri Lankan staff at the house allowed me to feel as immersed in the culture as I could have, as it is hard to fit in as a foreign person in the local community. We were all treated and fed very well and the Travellers staff helped us in every way they could, with a word of advice or a drive to our destinations when possible.
Sri Lanka offers many outstanding attractions, delicious food and unique but inexpensive experiences. Travellers WorldWide is definitely a stress-free way to visit the amazing country.
